Autoblog.com - Corvette ZR1 prototype spreads its massive wing - Pics
We recently got an early peek at the upcoming Corvette ZR1, and some of the intriguing details were a pair of slim posts on the tail end and a long, bubble-wrapped car part inside. We thought they looked like parts of a wing that wasn't installed, and from these latest spy photos, we thought correctly.
Although these newest photos are quite grainy, the large rear wing still comes through pretty clearly. Looking closely, it appears this prototype might be sporting more aggressive aerodynamic parts on the side skirts and the front bumper, but that's as much as we can gather from these photos. Regardless, the wing seems to indicate that this ZR1 will be particularly track-focused and a rival for cars like the Dodge Viper ACR and Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
Considering that the ZR1 is likely to be lighter and more powerful than both the current Z06 and the previous ZR1, the extra downforce should be very helpful. After all, rumors suggest it could produce at least 700 horsepower. Be sure to check out our article that archives all of the ZR1's developments, and stay tuned for more details.

Pretty darn cool. I know most people don't like these big wings, but I'm anxious to see it in person.

If there was one complaint about the Z06, it was that it had too much power for the rear tires to handle. I'm sure these downforce-producing accoutrements will reign that power in, and some.

GM Inside News recently noticed something interesting on Katech's Web site; a section dedicated to the "C8 Corvette ZR1/Zora LT5." Katech has since removed the page from its Web site.
Although far from definitive, the C8 listed on Katech's Web site is another crumb of evidence that GM is indeed planning a super Corvette to take on the best from Europe. It's been rumored that Chevy will offer the mid-engined Corvette in both "base" ZR1 spec and high-performance Zora trim, which lines up perfectly with Katech's internet gaffe.
The LT5 part of the equation likely refers to the engine that will power the C8. GM used an LT5 V8 developed by Lotus and built by Mercury Marine in the C4 ZR-1. That mill used quad overhead cams, indicating the ZR1/Zora will ditch pushrods in favor of modern engine tech.

the question is, is the picture one of a c7 zr1 or a midengine zora? i am guessing it is the zr1 model of the c7. i believe they will differentiate more in the styling of the midengine edition, as at the very least the cockpit has to more forward somewhat compared to the current version.

The Corvette Blogger offers 10 compelling reasons as to why he thinks the recent C7 spy shots reveal a Z06X track car instead of a new C7 ZR1. Read more here:

That will be a very interesting car - looking forward to seeing more as the development goes on.

But people don't buy ZR1's for purely aesthetic reasons. Although I prefer the hydraulic wings that tuck away.
