Default $1,200 wasted on HMI upgrade

I'm going to make this long story short and sweet.

Not knowing what CarPlay was I went ahead and purchased HMI upgrade for $1200. I was under impression I will get Waze, Google maps etc etc. My brother decided to get 2016 C7 this week, I wish he got it last week. So i wouldn't waste 1200 like an idiot. Now I have to spend more money and get Navtool.

P.S. If you think that CarPlay will give you full miroring it won't. Do not spend your money on HMI upgrade. After reading this forum I realized 2015 or 2016 you need Navtool to get full miroring and proper front camera.

If you are using Navtool please let me know if my assumptions are correct ?

For 1200 didnt you get factory NAV as well or did you already have that and just wanted carplay/android auto?

Plenty of posts here on the merits of CarPlay and Android Auto, very limited on app support. But if you have an android phone you will get google maps. Iphone and you are stuck with apple maps.

I have been using Android auto now for 4 months and google maps with it. It is so much better and easier to use then the built in GM nav systems. Everything in my phone Galaxy S5 including google maps (I like a little better then Waze), Pandora, etc, which all play on the car screen and thru the cars system all while charging your phone at the same time while its plugged into the cars usb port. By the way it is always current. I'll never buy a built in system again. You ought to see your dealer and get some advice on how to use it.

Wow, that's good to know. Now I won't have to enable mirroring on my NavTool.

On you man. I have Navtool and love it on the car. Really easy to install it on the car. The worse thing is getting the wires from the pass/side over to the drivers side.Robert

When? Waze.COM forum doesn't mention it.

Navtool users please fill me in. I own a '15 C7. Besides the 4 camera input selection, does the Navtool interface also provide wireless smart phone mirroring?

Nope, mirroring only works using a cable.

It doesn't do wireless without help from a stand alone wireless mirroring device. I have an android and bought the Microsoft wireless display adapter. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I bought this also.

Yes, for Android phones. You need to buy a Netgear Push2TV(about $40). It is simple to connect to NavTool. I don't believe it works for Apple. Norm

+1 on the Netgear Push2TV. If you have a rooted android phone, you can even use Tasker to automatically mirror wirelessly when the phone BT connects to the car. Add a nice Qi charger using a ProClip and you are good to go.

I did the HMI, Nav and car play/Android auto upgrade but had to return it and revert to original as it kept giving a no GPS signal for the onstar, tried it with the splitter and then the separate Nav antenna, still kept getting the onstar error. Company was very good in trying to help but for some reason it was interferring with each other. The android auto worked as well as the Nav but kept getting the red signal from onstar and they could not locate me.

I also have is uses with HMI swap. I'm an iPhone user and I'm sure waze isn't coming anytime soon, so I guess Navtool is the way to go at this time

Know what's cheaper than navtool? An android phone you can leave in your car... Add one to your cell plan, via family plans, $10 bucks a month and you have an extra phone to buy drugs and communicate with hookers. Win win.

Keep it behind the screen, and the wife will never find it ... until "Candy" calls to confirm your appointment.

Yeah, not a fool proof plan, but embracing salvation is wrought with peril..

I sorta went this route except I had an iPad mini kicking around. I added it to my plan, put a pro clip and a Scoche magnetic mount on, and it's a really clean set up:

Someday I'll run a cable under the console and up through the pop up power so I can run CarPlay and access my music without having to plug my phone in.
