67 lookalike
Hi, just purchased a 66 convertible which has all of the characteristics of a 1967. I have properly checked the vin # which resulted in being a 66, the car has a NOM 396 and apparently the late owner told family members that the car was a late 1966. I am almost convinced that there is a mixup
somewhere (DMV). Please chime in. Thanks

If the vin says it's a 66 then it's a 66. End of story. At one time it was popularto make a mid year look like it was one year newer. So adding side fenders was done and what ever else needed to be done

What are the "67 characteristics" you mention? Parking brake handle, side gills, lack of emblems, etc.

I bought a 65 that has all the looks of a 67 like side gills, 67 big block hood, center mounted reverse lights, console mounted e brake, body color gas lid. Seems like a lot of people did that because 67s were so popular. I get asked all the time if it's a 67.

It doesnt have to be a shady history, it could be a wrecked history repaired with what was available. You can always check the frame numbers and see what comes up. If you like the car just drive it and have fun with it. Post the Vin and trim and lets see what happens.

Nice looking car.....no telling what happened to it if the guy has had it for 46 years.
Things do happen at DMV's. My first Vette...a '64 had one digit off in the middle of the VIN on the title. Took a lot of work to get it straightened out.
But these things didn't get the reputation as being the most stolen and stripped things in the world without a few bad things happening along the way.
