Default Front tyre

Hi,

I need new front tyres, and I'm wondering, what tyre size would looks best?
I have 15" std steel with PO2, in rear I have 255-60-15
Today I have in front 215-70-15

What would looks the best??
Car: 69 convertible.

Thx.

P.S This is not about tyre pressure, tyre brand only what would look the best :- )

Hi c3,
I think what front tire you choose depends on what you want the appearance of the car to be.
Are you looking for a stock appearance in which the front and rear tires are the same, or relatively the same height, or are you looking for the popular bigs and little modified appearance?
The same applies to the width (fatness) of the front and rear tires?
Regards,
Alan

Hi Alan,

Not looking for stock, I'm after the best look together with my 255-60-15 rear, I like to see some rubber, not the moden "low" profile tyres.

But I don't know if the best look is, 215-60-15 or 215-70-15 or bigger like 225 or 235.

Thx,
John

Hi John,
From what you describe I'd look at a 225-70-15 tire for the front.
Compare it's height to the 255-60-15 tire… I believe it's just a little shorter but stills shows a good amount of side wall.
Regards,
Alan

Do you like your current 215-70R-15s? A 225 would have a 10mm wider tread patch; 20mm wider for a 235.

I agree with c3......I have a '68 'vert project.........I did not want the narrower stock looking tires, but I wanted more "meat" on the rims......I put 225-70-15 on the front/no problems with rubbing on the inner fender lip or while backing out of parking spaces. They also "fill" the wheel opening nicely. No problems with steering the car with my manual steering box in parking lots.

For your 'early' C3, I would recommend 235R60-15 tires. It is the largest tire that will not result in 'rubbing' during full steering turns, and will look compatible with what you have on the rear. IMO a 70 series front tire will not look balanced with a 60 series rear tire.

Thanks all.

My 255-60-15 is 27" high.

A 225-70-15 is 27.4"
A 235-60-15 is 26.1"

If you will be "rotating" the wheels front-to-rear/rear-to-front......to reduce tire wear....then...try to buy tires that are close to the same diameter/height and width. If you are not concerned about rotation.....buy front and rear tires that look the best on your car.

And that was my question, I want what looks best, I don't care about anything else :- )

Just realize that having the same outer diameter on front and rear tires may seem best; but front and rear tires that have different aspect ratios will appear 'odd' to the viewers. An inch of diameter difference from front to back is barely noticible.

If I go 235-60-15, then the tire height is 26.1"
The rear 255-60-15 is 27"

Or I can go 215-70-15 that is 26.9" compared to 27" rear.

But what would look best??
