How do you keep from hitting rev limiter with A8 ?
In sport mode , when I floored it, I thought A8 would shift before hitting limiter .I did not. How do you avoid this ?

Coming from the M6 in the C6Z - it's taking me a while to mod my behaviors.
Perhaps someone else know a way to tell the tranny to immediately revert to auto mode after using the paddles while in auto mode?

Don't mistake hitting the rev limiter for the very short ignition cutoff that occurs at the shift point to allow faster shifts. You will hear the sound of this shutoff during full throttle shifts but it is not the rev limiter you are hearing in that case.

In auto or paddle shifting mode? It should NOT hit the rev limiter at any time in full auto mode. I have done it many times through many gears and have never banged the limiter. Have not shifted WOT with paddles though, so I can't say anything about that...

I've hit the rev limiter a couple of times while using the paddle shifter in the sport mode, but never while in the sport mode in drive. It's pretty easy to bounce it off the rev limiter if you're not paying attention. Mine seems just as fast in drive.

Why does this surprise you?
It's holding the gear, just like a real manual trans.
I can't think of a better way for the A8 to do it.
Can you imagine if while in Manual Mode the thing would suddenly revert to Auto and take over shifting?
Talk about destroying a run!

In manual mode you can hit the rev limiter.
If you're in auto, however, you might -think- it's hitting the rev limiter when it's not. I know I did at first, and it's because the car does a fuel cut during the shift to speed the shift up. It's actually a cool sound/experience once you get used to it, but the first couple of times I thought I had bounced off the rev limiter.

Hope it doesn't do this in auto mode. I'd hate to talk it in for service and have the dealer's tech test drive the car at full throttle multiple files looking for the problem.

I am pretty sure I was in AUTO mode and sport mode, thats why I was surprised. I am not sure what gear it was in as I was holding on and watching the road.

It would be VERY surprising if the A8 in AUTO mode would actually go all the way to redline before trying to shift.
