My first hydrographics adventure

My first hydrographics adventure
Hey all,
Over the past 2 days I have made some slight alterations to the interior on my 2013 A6. I was tired of the shiny aluminum and wanted something similar to the factory imitation carbon.
So..I purchased a hydrographics (hydrodipping) kit from mydipkit and proceeded to produce these:
It's very difficult to get a good shot with a phone camera, and I didn't feel like pulling out the SLR.
For being my first try, I'm super pleased with the results. I used rustoleum graphite metallic for a base coat and followed with 8 coats of clear over the hydrographic film. Sanded to 2000 grit, then followed with rubbing and polishing compounds. Nearly mirror finish.

Looks very nice, and 8 coats of clear should be plenty of protection from use. A coat or two of sealant or wax won't hurt, either.

Very impressed. It turned out great!

Looks great! I like the look but didn't want to pay the price the aftermarket places were asking. Will definitely look into the DIY kit.

I always wondered how those DIY kits would work, looks like it came out good!
We've had a ton of the hydrographics dippers open up around our area and we're not even that big of a city.

I'm waiting on the clear coat to dry on the outer door handles, will post some pics after polishing them up. Pattern turned out incredible on those and the flat surfaces are much easier to sand/buff.
