1963 SWC for 66K
Was watching Mecum in Pebble Beach and saw a Nassau Blue SWC go for 66k. Assuming this was NOM but help me understand the price?
Hope this link helps:

I believe that's Daytona Blue and, with the new Mecum 10% seller's fee....the owner walked off with about $59K if your sales price is correct. Can't see that much wrong with the car other than wrong M/C and NOM and a few other nits. Maybe there's more going on than meets they eye in the photos... Also a Mecum "STAR" car....which adds to the mystery.

Star cars are cars that get the better TV time slots. The most watched times and you pay a little more.
Looks like a good deal for that car. SWC are out there, just everyone is paying top dollar now.
When the dust settles and he pays his fees he will be close to the price they can be found for.

Sometimes there are good deals at auctions. It seems like Monterey wasn't getting big sale prices like in previous years. I wish I was there to take home this '64 coupe. Someone got a steal on this no reserve car!

Remember -- Mecum is 10% fee on both sides of the deal now (unbelievable) so the buyer paid closer to $73K and if you troll around you can find NOM split-windows for that if you're patient and this one clearly needs some "love" to bring it up to what I would want to see and drive...
At Mecums auctions if you are lucky to but any "Road Art" the buyers premium is 18% and at the other end (seller) I believe it is 10%.
Hell of a deal for Dana M.
Also on site bidder registration is now $200.00.

I stand corrected as I've never been to one of the newer, glitzy classic car auctions during bidding (I've wandered through the tents enough).
My experience is limited to the old-style, dealer-only, wholesale auctions from decades ago buying cars with my Dad

Since I live in the Monterey area I usually go to the Mecum auction every year. This year was a bit strange. First of all the cars were a little different. The mix was more toward the high end exotics and the more than 100 Porches. In the past, it seems that they had more muscle cars and stock Corvettes. I spent most of my time looking at C2's and the selection seemed to be thin this year. There were a few nice cars and a few really bad ones. One 64 coupe that I looked at could have been a poster car for bad body work. The gaps were the worst that I have seen. On the hood, the front gap was more than 1/2 inch. When I looked at the rear gap, it was also more than 1/2 inch. Either the hood had been cut down or something really strange was going on under the front clip. When I looked at the doors, the hood seemed to be pretty nice. You could change the weather striping with the doors closed. In the end, that car did not sell but someone did bid it up to a pretty high price. Mecum also increased their prices for spectators. Up until 2014, spectators could get in free. For the last two years they charged $20 for looking. Given the number of cars and the setting, that was not unreasonable. This year, it went to $30 per day and they really cut back on the seats available to spectators. On the first day, I asked a Mecum employee where I could sit and he told me that all of the seats were for registered bidders. When I asked him about that and the fact that 75% of the seats were empty, he laughed and said that they have also started treating the employees like dirt this year. I obviously don't know what goes on behind the scenes at Mecum, but this was not one of their best years. They spent a bunch of money on temporary buildings to house the big buck cars and I don't think that it paid off like they hoped. Monterey is different than their other auctions. Here they are competing with five other auctions held during the same week. It just seemed like they were trying to be more like RM, Gooding, and the other high end companies. I have decided that I probably will not not go back next year. I am sure that will not be a big deal to them, I have heard from three friends who had the same experience and they have also decided that this was their last year for Mecum. That is a bummer because it really was a great show in the past. I hope that they go back to what they used to be.

That blue FI was still for sale when I left today. I don't think being buried in the swap meet area helped a car like that. Should have been in the Car Corral where car buyers go looking.

I snapped a few pics of the blue FI car if anyone wants to pursue it. I would be if I didn't already have a midyear!! It looked nice from 10, 5 and even 3 feet but I would call it a nice driver overall.

Overall, the American fifties and up car prices seemed depressed to me.

Thanks I was looking for a blue/blue SWC on Friday but only saw the red one in the corral. Will give him a ring.

The FI 63 split was my brothers car for a lot of years, repainted in the 80's with factory pack lacquer. My son bought it about 3 years ago. He is more a resto mod guy. He won Lance Millers choice at Carlisle with his beautiful 63 black and red convertible.
