Default It was running a little hot

It was running at 220 even on a cooler day, but if I pushed it at all it would hit 230 and above. I couldn't run the a/c at all it would shoot up really quick.

I'm putting in a big blower cam myself and so I pulled the radiator and found this....a closer look Totally mattedThe car has an ECS 1500 the intercooler sits in front of the cleaner side of the radiator. The intercooler had no debris at all. What a mess, should run a tad cooler now.

That's interesting. Do you think the placement of the intercooler had any adverse effect on the air draw to the radiator? Maybe causing more debris to end up onto the rad coils?

Asking BC I just purchased an A&A SC, waiting for delivery. Their intercooler mounts in a similar way to ECS' intercooler. I know my rad is clean now, just cleaned it, but I'll be keeping an eye on it after the A&A install.

Mine looked like that after the first 3 years. Now I flush it out at least once a year in the spring.

After I posted I remembered the intercooler doesn't sit directly in front of the radiator, the a/c condenser does. The a/c condenser had some debris, but nothing like the radiator. The debris is being sucked up between the condenser and the radiator. I'm thinking I should build a screen of some kind, obviously taking out the radiator to clean it out right is a bigger deal than I want to get into every couple of years. I've seen people's hoses that they've made and so on but if the debris didn't get up in there to begin with that would be better. I'll put some thought into a screen and do some research. If anybody knows of a screen that's all ready out there please chime in.

Couple of questions please
Where did it live most of its life ? Type of geography ?
how many miles ?
Is there any way to look at this without pulling things apart ?
Thanks

I'm in Los Angeles. It's got about 53,000 miles. Looking down between the radiator and the condenser I could see some debris was in the radiator but I had no idea that so much of it was completely plugged up. I'm surprised the cooling system worked as well as it did. I was about to spend $900 on a Dewits. This stuff that's in there seems to all be organic mostly fine plant matter dirt and sand. I drive up canyons and on country roads (way too fast). There's plenty of them just outside of town so it's not just city driving.

Like you said, it's a wonder it cooled as well as it did.. Now you and the Chevy can breath easy.

Mine was running a bit hot last weekend on the interstate at 80mph... might need to clean up my act as well... do you just spray it down or use a brush?

It's much better to use compressed air from the back of the radiator and a soft old toothbrush on the front to loosen the debris. Ideally you should do this every spring. A local Chevy technician removed what he said was a shoebox full from my old radiator that had accumulated in four years.

If I had been on the C6 design team I think I'd have fit a removable screen in front of the radiator much like the lint trap for a dryer. I could pull it out and clean it whenever necessary.

well it wasn't working as well as it did, it should run 190 going down the road at speed, and if your doing ANY kind of mods, big cam or blower you'd better get an DeWitts radiator use water wetter and almost all water, just enuf AF for protection. 180 tstat and I run down the HWY on a 100 degree day at 175 running an internal oil cooler too.

No, there was really no indication there was a real problem. I thought there was air trapped in the cooling system.

I have a hood vent, removed the back weatherstripping from the hood, I installed a 160 thermostat. I'll do the water wetter and see how it runs. If it's running hot I'll do the Dewitts
