Default Hard to get out of park on a hill

1981 th350.

Vette is becoming increasingly difficult to get out of park when on an incline with the nose pointing uphill. Shifter works great on flat road.

I know there will be some resistance when there is load on the rear wheels but this is getting bad. Parked on a steep hill today and had to have a guy push on the car to get enough load off the park cog to get into gear.

Linkage? Something internal? Any suggestion on where to start looking appreciated.

Repair the parking brakes. Then they can hold the car instead of the park-pawl. One of these days, you will park on too steep of a hill...and the park pawl will break. At that time, you will HAVE to fix the parking brakes. Why not do that BEFORE the park pawl breaks?

torque lock.matter of time before you break the pawl.when parking set your parking brake while trans is in neutral. when car settles then put in park.no stress on pawl. after starting car put car in neutral FIRST,then release parking brake, then select trans gear of your choice. do this every time

The way you're parking now, the only thing holding the car is the pawl

Ok ok, sounds like I need to start using the parking brake! Lesson learned.

Thanks to all.

If you need further instruction on adjustment just let me know. I am not here to judge, or be judged.......

We're not "judging"; we're trying to "educate".
