Mystery Brake Light Problem

Mystery Brake Light Problem
My brake lights (left, right, and center) sometimes stay on dimly when the car is turned off, and when driven again.
I have a 1996 LT-4. This has happened twice over the last few weeks of regular driving. The lights are on dimly - not normal brake light brightness. After this happens, applying the brake pedal doesn't make them go to normal brightness, and they don't go off - even when the car is restarted started and I'm driving. I disconnect the battery, and it's as if they 'reset', and I'm fine again. On the days it's happened, I drove a good distance, it was very hot, and I used max A/C.
Obviously it is a safety issue, as the brake lights aren't functioning properly.
The battery voltage is normal, and the battery load-tests fine. I don't think it's a brake pedal switch. Perhaps a relay sticking?
Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
Thanks, Doug

No and No.
Here is the answer from the book.
GMP/96-Y-1, Book 1 of 2, page 8A-110-13
"Stop Lamps Stay "ON"
1. Disconnect brake switch connector
- Do stop lamps turn off
Yes -
A. Check for proper brake switch adjustment.
B. If OK, replace brake switch.
NO -
A. If rear stop lamps stay "ON", check for a shorted capacitor between terminals "A" and "B" or a short to B+ in CKT 17.
B. If OK, replace turn/hazard switch assembly
C. If high level stop lamp stays "ON", check for a shorted capacitor between terminals B and C or a short to B+ in CKT 20.
