Rocks in the engine compartment.. !?!?!
So, popped the hood to check the fluids and check things out.
Wait, whats that!?!? What the (bleep) is that and how the (bleep) did they get into the engine compartment..
Yup, several small stone's stuck up on top of the shock.. HUH!!?!?!?!?
I'm used to seeing them on my running boards and stuck under the rear spoiler.. but on top of the shock in the engine compartment?

Sticky tires pick up small rocks.

Sticky tires. I found a good size rock wayyyyy bigger than those under my seat when I swapped the leather out. Assuming it threw it in when I had the window down or top off. I was planning on posting a pic so I put it by the seat post but I guess my detailer sucked it up with his vacuum LOL!

Rocks or no rocks, you could be driving a Prius. :-)

I agree with the sticky tire scenario.. but how do they end up inside the motor compartment, on top of the shock at the top of the wheel well.. no amount of bouncing around "under" the car is going to throw those stones up onto the top of the wheel well..
No big deal, just weird to find them in the location they were..

When you need a rabbit
If you can find a hard charging Prius they are the best to follow.
The low hung rear fenders and little thin tires of hard rubber and of little thread.
Not sticky thread either will never throw rocks at you.

I wouldn't be surprised to find some small rocks anywhere with these sticky tires. Even at very slow speeds the tires are expert rock throwers. Last week the interstate exit I needed was just past a closed lane section and there was a line of small rocks across the exit lane. I was down to 10 MPH and got to watch a pebble fly up in the air in slow motion and land between the windshield and hood near the center of the car.
I had one inside a rear brake cooling duct shortly after I bought the car which made an incredible rattle when the car was cold started and the exhaust shakes everything. After listening to it a couple of days I made a fast stop and it came flying out. With my Z06 I take a detour when heading north because there is too much small debris on the road heading north on the road fronting my house. The one time I tried this road going slowly I could see the front tires launch pebbles up into the air so I quickly backed up and went the other direction. This same road doesn't bother the Bridgestone summer performance tires on my ATS or the all seasons on my GMC Sierra but neither grip the road like the Corvette tires so I will live with the self-imposed detour.
