Default [VR] Corvette ZR-1 Makes 612rwhp / 632rwtq With a Few Simple Bolt-Ons!

This particular Corvette ZR-1 came to us as a referral from one of our customers who has had several LSX vehicles built with us ranging from a nitrous fed C5 Z06 to a current CTS-V Wagon. The customer came to the most recent WannaGOFAST 1/2 mile event after trading his past Porsche in for this immaculate ZR-1 to be his introduction into the pushrod V8 world. After a discussion at the track and in the office later on his goals, we knew that reliability and driveability would be the key for the combination as this car sees many miles both on the highway and the track.

For this, we decided on a slight variation of our current Vengeance Racing 700HP Stage II Performance package offering a comprehensive and powerful combination of parts that would allow the car to drive and operate like stock, while delivering a lot more power and torque under the pedal. The parts we had selected were:
  • K&N Carbon Fiber CAI
  • LPE 10-Bolt Hub and 2.35" Upper Pulley
  • LPE 76mm Idler Kit
  • 160* Thermostat
  • American Racing 1-7/8" Longtube Headers w/ Catted X-pipe (wrapped in house)
  • Mike Norris Billet Catch Can

With these simple "Stage I" modifications, we were able to generate a final power output of 612rwhp and 632rwtq on the chassis dyno with 93 octane fuel in the tank! The combination proved to be as powerful as we were expecting while giving the same refined driving feel that the ZR-1 is known for. We will certainly be seeing this customer back for a heat exchanger upgrade and a push for a bit more power in the near future.

For information on all of our offerings for the LS9 or any other LSX / Gen V LTX engine platform, feel free to contact us at 678-513-7105 or sales@vengeanceracing.net

Nicely done.

How long will the cats live at that power level?

Thank you! I've seen them hold up well into the 700rwhp range from the ARH systems, but beyond that you're on borrowed time.

Hhmm. Well if that's the case, mine will likely get spit out in the October Texas Mile.

I see a set of longtubes and catless xpipe in my future.

You could save a few bucks and just buy B&B LT's...they were designed to bolt right up to your factory x-pipe mid-pipe. Only LT's that I'm aware of that are direct bolt on replacement for stock manifolds/cats with no other modifications needed. Just a suggestion...

Ah, thank you. So, just to make sure I understand what you're saying, the B&B LTs replace the stock manifold and the cats and bolt directly to the stock x pipe? I.e. it's a catless header set up that will require no other changes to my downstream exhaust?

If so, that seems like a great way to go. Are they a good quality product?

You don't have 2 cats on your stock X-pipe now, do you?

No, they're upstream of the x-pipe. My question was just to confirm the B&B unit replaces the run of manifold, cats and pipe to the stock x-pipe so to be a plug and play using my stock x pipe. I'm pretty sure that is what he meant. I just wanted to confirm that.

And I apologize to Dave at VR - I didn't mean to derail his thread, as his set-up in this thread is quite nice.

Got it. Just checking because the flange arrangement for the non-cat X-pipe vs. the 2 cat X-pipe (2012-13) is completely different and wouldn't be a true bolt on. Unless they make a header for both versions 2009-2011 & 2012-13 cars.

That is correct...a simple bolt in to swap out the OE manifolds and cats. B&B makes great stuff. I think Southern Car Parts (CF supporting vendor) sells them for ~$1000.00. No need to spend several hundred more for an x-pipe that your car already has.

I always figured these along with the full AKRA evo (Ti x-pipe and Ti axle back) would be the ticket for the lightest exhaust system possible if you wanted to run catless...IIRC you drop 50+ lbs off the car with that setup.

Mine are still good at 550rwhp (mustang dyno) and 2k miles on the blower setup. I do have a set of ARH LT's on the way tho

Not a problem. Discussion is what this forum is for!

You know, we're a B&B and Akrapovic dealer as well...

I did not...but now I do. I'm on an island, so news travels slowly here...that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
