What happened to the 1%?
I just changed oil on my '09 for the first time myself. My first oil change was performed by a third party because I couldn't get the stinking oil filter off the car. Anyway, after filling its tummy with 6 qts. of Mobil 1 5W-30, I reset the % of oil life remaining on the DIC. It came up with 99%. Not 100%. 99%! Where is my other 1%? Is that being stolen by rich investment bankers? Was my oil sitting on the shelf at WalMart too long? Why doesn't the DIC report 100%? I look forward to your explanations.

Pretty sure you get one reading when you reset the status with the car off and in acc mode and another if you reset it with the car running.

Damn! I only let it sit and drip for about 48 hours! The neighbors were getting a little hinky about me laying under the car in the driveway for two days, and I'm an old guy and I thought they might call 911, so I decided to just button it up and replace the oil. Next time I'll do the whole 72, but it sure gets cold out there in the middle of the night.

Pretty sure my C5 would reset to 100% and I'm also sure our Caddy ATS resets to 100%.
But my C6 is only 99%.

Eh...I don't think that's the % that the DIC is reporting, but I do feel blessed that I got most of that nasty old oil out of there. Maybe next time I'll stuff a rag in the oil fill hole and fire up my compressor. That should get the other 1% out, no?

I don't remember which one is which. But if you had the engine running when you only got 99%, turn the engine off first next time.

OK; let's look at this a little closer.
you put in 6 qts. of oil
6qts. = 12 pints
12pints = 192 fluid ounces
192 fluid ounces = 24 cups (not coffee)
24cups = 324 tablespoons
324 tablespoons = 1152 teaspoons
1152 teaspoons = 1536 US. drams
1% of 1536 US. drams = 15.35 US. drams
Hence, wherever the 1% is, you're missing 15.36 of the dram things !

Nice Vette though, well, except for the defiled door and the "model" (cough).

The 1% took a tax break given to them by Obama so it would not have to be grouped with the lowly 99% of the oil population.
