Default Auto trans cooler suggestions

Considering fitting one of these in next round of mods...
At its worse temps in trans it's in and around 205...
I know not extreme.. But looking at some performance mods... Ultimately looking at a supercharger some day...
I figure having cooler trans temps even now can't harm? As been told nothing kills a trans faster than heat!

What make did you go with?
Any any thoughts on effect etc most welcome

If you want a serious trans cooler get the Tru-Cool Max LPD47391.
I tried the biggest cooler BM and others have to offer and none of them matched the performance of the Tru Cool. I rarely see anything above 155-160* even with 850rwhp.

In front of the rad, mounted off the front frame section thats behind the front bumper support. I opened up the license plate section and fog lamp areas to allow more airflow to it.

I've been using the B&M 70264 for years. Works great and is under $100. Mounted right to the front of the radiator on my WS6. Also ran one on my Dad's GTO.

Damn your car is serious man! awesome...

when you opened up your fog area.. did you keep the lights in situ, but just open up around it?

Thanks man. I just cut open the stock plastic fog lamp moldings or whatever they're called. So the fog lights function and bolt on like stock, just that the middle part is gone. That way I get max air to my coolers especially at speed.

the biggest one you can fit. allison and CAT both have charts showing trans fluid effective life and temps. trans fluid is done for in 15 minutes at 300deg. if you keep it really cool and it's sealed and filtered well like some of the new sealed transmissions out there 100k+ even 200k miles are possible because that fluid is staying under 190deg and is not being contaminated

basically each degree it rises the more life you lose from it. with racing and high hp you can bring temps up really really quick if you have an undersize cooler and start running the car hard

All good ideas guys. C5Natie, at 850hp are you supercharged? I'm supercharged and have a BM cooler now. Its on the radiator as well but the intercooler is right in front of it and blocks it off and doesn't work as good as I'd like. I already have opened up the front license plate and removed the fog light shrouds. Trans temps are usually around 200F or a little under but in hot weather, I've seen it push 220F. I'd really like to keep it like yours at the 150-170 range. I think I'm going to have to cut the metal shroud for the intercooler to allow more air thru the radiator.

Pic of work.. almost looks factory!

Yes Im supercharged, Vortech Ysi kit from A&A.

I had the big B&M supercooler before as well and it did ok but still wasnt as low as I wanted my temps to be especially for stuff like road course and canyon driving.

Try the Tru-Cool cooler and see if you can mount it on the frame rail right behind the front bumper in front of the rad. This will also give you more of an air gap. Sometimes if coolers are too close together it impairs airflow. The second cooler or the rad can block some air aqfter it has passed the first cooler. This air builds up impeding flow through both coolers. Therefore I try to mount them with a few inches in between each other and with as much airflow through them as possible, which isnt always easy on these cars.

Remember that your radiator has a built in trans cooler----So your radiator actually cools your trans----
I would 1st install a LOWER thermostat in your cooling system---I prefer the 160* thermo---Your engine will never run that cold and will settle about 185* during normal driving
2nd you need to have both your fans tuned to come on earlier this then will make your trans run cooler as well----
Unless you race your car alot or you have a stall converter you should be totally fine. The only time you would need to add an additional trans cooler is of you have a higher stall converter than stock---which creates more heat on your trans---
It is easy to add a secondary trans cooler--even one with a fan-----a simple project of plumbing an simple wiring----
I would 1st install a lower thermo--have your fans adjusted to come on sooner then see where you are at---If it still isn't cool enough then go to all the trouble of adding an additional cooler

Thanks tblu92. All of that stuff you've mentioned has already been done. 160 tstat. Fans turned on in HP Tuners. I do have a stall converter. Just need to tweak a few things like C5Natie stated. Appreciate your input pard...

Just out of interest can you adjust fans with Diablo Intune hand held tuner does anyone know..
And is a lower thermostat in car settings or is it actually putting in a new thermostat?

Not sure the capabilities of the Diablo tuner, but HP Tuners can adjust the radiator fans. You'll need to direct that question to Diablo. The lower thermostat is a new thermostat. It is not a device that is controlled by the computer settings. It's a mechanical device that opens and closes strictly by temperature. Maybe some one can chime in on the Diablo question.

Get this one and don't look back, fits perfect on front condenser.

My temps stay around 150-165 temps in fla 90 degree weather. On a stroked procharged LS6.
