Default Has anyone added a fuel pressure gauge to your C1?

I have a '60 - 283 with a Carter 2x4 setup. Always wondered about my fuel pressure between the pump and carbs. I was thinking of adding an in-line pressure gauge to the car. Has anyone done that and do you feel it detracts from the originality of the car? Where did you install it? Do you have any pictures?

Thanks,

Rick

You could Bubba one in there but you'll have to butcher your 'hard line' to do it....its easier to just take your trusty vacuum gauge and measure the pressure once and satisfy yourself that is in spec. 98% of vacuum gauges are also fuel pressure gauges and the instructions should tell you how to hook it up

I see this at shows and wonder why people do it...???
Nice chrome gauges... but huh?? Nice bling I guess....

What is going to change from the 1-time reading Frank mentions?
It's not like you can watch it as you drive down the road??

Also an unnecessary potential source of a fuel leak in a very bad place (not that there's any such thing as a good one). IMHO, fuel pressure gauges are only for temporary diagnostic use -- never for permanent installation.

I put one on my 56 but only while I was tuning then removed it so it didn't affect under hood appearance. You certainly don't need it there all the time.

Default All Excellent Responses!!!

I guess after thinking about your replies, I agree with the once and done method. I definitely understand the concern over "just another place for a fuel leak". By-the-way - what fuel pressure are you running? I assume I want to be around 4 or 5 pounds.

Thanks,

Rick

Keeping an original appearance is all nice and good, but if you are doing a lot of multiple carb changes/adjustments, experiencing top bowl lid gasket seepage, troubleshooting, etc, a pressure gauge is invaluable.
Another advantage is letting you know when all the line pressure has bled off before having to work on fuel lines or carbs.

After several years experimentation, my old school Edelbrock tri power setup with Rochester 2CG carbs has evolved to professionally rebuilt carbs, pressure regulator, gauge and braided lines. My Central Florida Corvette buddies have razzed me incessantly over the years, but it works for me.

I've had one plumbed in my 3x2 setup on my BB. for about 35 years now.
Not only does it look good, but I always know that my fuel pump is working and the carbs are getting fuel. Also it's dry as a bone. Has never once leaked. I think it would look great with dual carbs as well. To each his own.

Yes, I added a Schrader valve to my forward Carter AFB (aftermarket 500 cfm) carb. My carbs have the fuel inlets on the driver's side, so I installed a threaded Schrader valve on the passenger side inlet area. I machined the area flat, bored out the area, and cut threads for the valve. It is normally left capped. If needed to check fuel pressure, I hook up a modified flexible hose that depresses the valve and allows me to have a temp fuel gauge in the cockpit, to view full throttle fuel pressure.

I know this is not "safe", but it is only for one run..........

Having a gauge mounted under the hood does not tell you the whole story.

I am currently one handed, otherwise I would of taken a picture.

On a carbureated car a permanent fuel pressure gauge is just a contrived bit of bling. If you actually drive your car you'll nearly always know about fuel delivery problems before you ever see the gauge give you an early warning....

Ask the guys whose fuel pump actuator pins have 'walked out', or, the internal fuel pump 'poppit' valves weren't staked in and came loose.

I did have a permanent gauge on my '67 Chevelle along with all the other shiny bling do-dads while suffering from a bout of "chrome addiction" but I got on a 12 step program and my sponsor talked me down.

Default Go electric.

I put this Holley electric gauge in the clock hole on my C3:https://www.holley.com/products/fuel...s/parts/26-503

Now I can see full pressure from the driver's seat anytime. You can Tee the sensor anywhere you like to monitor the fuel pressure - I put mine tapped right on my q-jet inlet so I can see what the needle and seat see. I bought mine when they were only $70 but you will have to pay nearly $100 now.

Good luck.

PS, for a multi carb system I couldn't imagine not having a good fuel pressure gauge where I can read it all the time.

I don't know of anybody running a permanent fuel pressure gauge on a stock C1 dual quad setup; if you want one fine....but not having one shouldn't tax anyone's "imagination".

I drove my C1 75,000 miles with 2x4 setup with no issues and no gauge.

Default C1 fuel pressure data

Here ya go.
Monitor fuel pressure while driving or at the engine.
FAST EZ EFI 2.0 handheld.
Ignore other readings as this was before completion of setup.
