Default new car epic thread....

I have been on the forum quite awhile..some of you know my car and followed my Lo-Buck thread. For you others my last C5 was a hi mile '99 semi-beater Coupe that over 2 years I sunk a ton into and brought back to life..

I got that car paid for and decided my future money invested would be better spent on a low mile example.

So a few weeks back I found another '99 that fits the keeper category much better. A pewter '99 vert with just over 56K was my choice.

The former coupe was a base model with the 2:73 rear, the car had a new trans cam tune etc but had 230K mi on the clock.

The new '99 vert feels like a whole different animal..only 56K on the car...pretty sure it has a different rear, I can tell ..it really scoots..and the vert is loaded with all the toys. I'm still discovering new things, and after a month of ownership I'm really enjoying some of the upgrades.

OK I'll confess the Pewter metallic is taking me some getting used to, soccer-mom brown..hmm. But it sure doesn't show the dust like my Black Beast did, actually I'm starting to like the subtle aspects of the Pewter color.

First wax job coming up, I discovered she's a bit water spotted if you look close so I guess she needs a clay-bar treatment.

I'm looking at my first oil change too, I'm not sure what's in it (??) so at 57000 I'm going in for a Mobil One 5-30 and filter change.

I should say for the viewers that my seats are NOT Black & White..my camera color is off. They are a very nice shade of Gray that really compliments the color of the car.

BTW my visors are toast. crumbling and faded..now there's a guy in town with a Pewter vert like mine '97-'98 I think, nasty as hell looks like he hasn't washed it since '97. Ratty canvas seat covers grimy wagon wheels, the whole enchilada.. he's got the same miles as me. But his visors are PERFECT..?? go figure.

Keep the barrels of those wheels clean. The prior owners of my low mileage vert did not and the are all dimpled with corrosion from brake dust. Yours look to be in good shape but keep them clean. Those wheels are beautiful when well cared for.

Pewter is a great color on the C5 - I had a '00 pewter coupe for over seven years and never got tired of the color.

Congrats on getting a nice looking, lower mileage car. Hope it gives you lots of driving pleasure.

Is there anyway to clean the barrels thoroughly without removing the wheels from the car?

I clean mine all the time with them on the car (black)!!! I use something like these that have a opening on one end and I made a flat paint stick like board to fit inside !!

A lot of folks use Wheel Woolies but those are around $30. I got this at Walmart for $5 and it works really well for cleaning barrels wheels-on. An occasional wheels off cleaning and waxing is invaluable for protecting the wheels.
