Default How much buffeting with top off of coupe?

Not convertible, but coupe: how good/bad is wind noise and buffeting with the top off? And at what speeds is it OK vs worse/bad?

I drive mine with the top off from time to time. It is no worse than any convertible I have ever driven. In fact, it is somewhat less. Of course, the slower you drive the less the wind intrusion. I really do not mind the noise and the open air driving is really a plus, IMO.

It is not bad.

I have musicians ear plugs I wear on the freeway, it can get loud and I'm usually doing longer distances.

I've had it up to 150 with the top off and surprisingly it doesn't change much until over 140 the noise takes a huge step up.

While it's obviously louder when off, i.e., you will have to talk a little louder, or turn the stereo up... it's actually not too bad. I haven't noticed any speed sweet spots, but I noticed that get more "buffeting" in my truck with the rear slider open and the windows down.

Great around town, not great on the highway.

I've driven my coupe with the top off at 80+ MPH for a few hours at a time. Was not a problem for me. I loved it. I didn't find the buffeting any worse than a C6 convertible I had and a whole lot better than a C5 coupe with the top off.

I'm interested in this as well. Not so much from the noise aspect, as I expect it to be louder, but more from the throbbing or harmonic aspect in the cabin. It was pretty bad in my older C5, and I bought a device that allowed you to crack the rear hatch open about 3 " to relieve the back pressure. Have not seen anything like that for a C7. I've encountered the same problem on cars with the sun roof open, but can usually crack the back windows down a few inches to alleviate it. Haven't had the top off my C7 yet. Is the problem very noticeable?

As long as you aren't one of those people that takes the targa off and then rolls the windows up, you shouldn't have any issue.

No issues windows up or down. In fact it's the best convertible experience I've ever had. My wife doesn't complain about her hair because it's more and an up and back airflow. Not loud really at any time. Never had the pressure buffeting. And I have the roof off often.

This pretty much sums it up. Stereo, phone and conversations get really challenging above 30.

(What's left of) my hair gets a lot less messed up in the C7 with the top off than it did with my Cadillac XLR with the top down.

I'd be careful with this. There's been 2 confirmed incidents where coupe drivers with the top removed exceeded 150mph and the car actually flipped backwards.

In my experience it's OK up to 45 MPH. By OK I mean any thing faster starts to rip my head off. If you have a hat on it will be gone by the time you reach 50 MPH. But, that is just me and most like that. So its all a matter what you like.

These sound about right, unless you retired from the infantry, or some other career that exposed to the same decibel levels.

It is worse than the C7 Convertible.

I take my top off frequently and don't think that it's bad at all. Less wind and noise than my C6 vert. I don't notice any buffeting.

Definitely better than a convertible. But as others have said, on the highway you get a lot of wind and other noise. But it's not backflow like you get in a convertible.

At interstate speeds (70mph) it is tolerable with the top off, but I wouldn't want to drive for more than an hour or so. Also, i am 5'10" and find that a hat will stay on, but it needs to be snug.

I haven't had my roof on since the beginning of May, and have done both highway and secondary road trips. No real buffeting to speak of, but the noise is pretty intense on concrete. Of course, I've been riding bikes for 50+ years, so I'm pretty much used to the wind noise and growl when up to speed. Music is fine up to about 50...after that YMMV.

Don't believe that for a second. Someone is pulling your leg.

There is no buffeting on the inside. Not sure who's hat flies off at 50mph. I drive it every single day with the top off and usually with a hat on, there is no cabin buffeting at all.

It will get loud in your left ear because of road noise. Been over 100mph many times with a hat and nothing.

Noise and buffeting are two different things. Spend $130 on a set of custom made ear plugs. I wear them on the freeway. They cut noise off above 85db and you can easily hear the stereo upwards of 90mph with them on.
