starting trouble??
I need help diagnosing this issue.
Every once in a while I turn the key and it only clicks and doesn't start. I turn the key back and then try to start it again and most of the time it starts in the second try. Sometimes third try. It is gradually happening more and more.
Does is sound like a starter issue, solenoid, connection??? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
It's an 86 coupe, automatic, Z51.

Could be but I would check both ends of the cables clean and tighten first as well as the cable itself and load test the battery. Then if it is the starter I would have it rebuilt instead of replacing.

They can be bad new. Did it start this just after the new battery? Might have not cleaned the factory protective coating off it. make sure you pull the bolts out and clean behind them.

I had a similar issue. Turned out the trigger wire to the starter was corroded and bad. Ran a new wire from the cylinder's output to the start motor, works like a champ.
