How bad of a bath would I take? Trade for Z06
Well..... I bought a 2017 Stingray Z51/2LT last week when I went in to check out Camaro's. I was impulsive, but I love my new Vette. Normally I do a bit of research into such purchases, but as I said, it was impulsive and I got a good deal. Now after joining the forums, I've learned about the awesome 20% deals on certain 16' Z06's (interested in Koons Chevy Shark Grey) making what I thought was unobtainable a reality. Anyways, I'm considering taking a bath and trading the new 17' Stingray in on a 16' Z06. The 17' values don't show up on KBB. How do I determine a fair trade value? How bad of a bath should I expect to take? Should I just hold onto the Stingray and wait for an end of the year 17 Z06 sale? Are these awesome 20% deals a regular annual type sale?
Also, I'm about to ship my Stingray out to TN. from AZ. For $1,800 which would just be additional lost money. Anyone with any suggestions on how I might work this out if I tried to work a deal with a large east coast dealer?

I won't be doing any mods, as it's my goal to purchase a Z06 sooner or later, and I'd rather put any money towards the future Z purchase. Don't get me wrong, the Stingray is an awesome car and I love it and will certainly enjoy it, but the Z for me is the ultimate goal.

why would you buy a stingray when you can get 200 more horsepower and a better looking car for cheaper money is the question?trade it now before all the 16 Z deals are gone.there was a 16 close to that or more for your car listed here for 70k.you probally paid close to that or more for your car.

I did not research my purchase, and made an impulsive decision. If I can somehow work a deal and get a decent trade value for my 17' Stingray on a 16' Z06, I'll do just that. If not, I can wait. Yes your right, $69k OTD which was MSRP.

the longer you wait the more your car depreicates.the 16 Z has already been depreciated 20% and NOW is when you want to buy.trade your car while it still has value because it is new.

I also wish I knew my house was going to sell so fast, and would have waited to purchase a Vette on the east coast so I didn't have to ship it across the country. my bad and lesson learned.

You live once on this earth if you can swing it do it, life is short and goes buy too darn fast. If you can swing it $ wise, go for it!

Your biggest problem is you paid MSRP on the Z51. I'd guess your $69k has dropped to 62-65k on a trade value if you've put under 500 miles on it. And you may be much lower if you're not good at negotiation (you paid MSRP). You just enjoyed a very expensive rental.

I contemplated similar after my 2017 purchase. Would expect your trade in offer will be 15-18% below it's MSRP.. Even with no/low miles.

Try touching base with Mike Furman at Criswell (301-212-4420). He posts in this forum frequently----he is one of the top corvette sales people in the country. More importantly, he really seems to care. He is extremely helpful----even if you don't end up buying from him. best of luck.

As noted above, checking with Mike Furman is always a good idea. He has a reputation as a straight shooter even with folks who aren't actually buying from him (although that is also a good idea). Having worked in the business , the advice I always offer people wondering about a sale or trade in value on a car is to stop in at a CarMax for an appraisal if you have one in your area. They will give you a piece of paper saying how much they will pay for your car for the next seven days. A true wholesale value from someone who will back it up with cash. Not just a book. There also may be tax advantages to you for a trade in--depends on the state. The best deal can probably be realized with the dealer who has the car you want to buy. They will make money on both your trade and your new car, and they will hope to get your future service business. But have your CarMax estimate in your pocket in case they low ball you. Most dealers will at least match a CarMax bid to get your business. --Bob

The car you are interested in at Koons Chevy is used "low mileage". I wonder why it was returned. Not too many demo Z06s. Also, KElly Blue Book states a Z06 looses nearly $10,000 per year in value for the first 5 years, so the discount is not as good as it appears. I am looking for a Z too, but the 10% off deals are not appealing to me.

Dealer offered 33% off sticker for trade in on one month old ZO6 with 900 miles. I wouldn't expect a whole lot different, maybe a little less of a hit on a '17 Stingray. Good luck and go get that Z!!
