The video doesnt show the car going into limp mode, rather still hauling a$$ around the track......was the video supposed to show that?

Nope. I figured that would be a waste of time to view that.

what were the ambient temperatures?

Given that you have a manual.....what has been said before would have suggested that wouldnt happen.

I only saw an instance or two where you really wound it out to the red line....there were also a couple of good long straights......

93 degrees.

Nothing I know of predicted the car would go into limp mode and all the bells and whistles would go off. I did not expect it. I think the 1.7 Gs had something to do it.

The Cosworth program said car was on the gas 35% of the time and on the brakes 15% of the time. There is no need to go to red line before every shift. I thought that was very interesting.

Default Do you have the secondary radiator?

hey Jim,

Anthony Coberg here, do you have the GMPP secondary radiator installed? It's standard on the 2017 manuals. I just picked up my 2016 and after the break in had the secondary cooler installed... sorry about limp mode, that sucks

Hi Jim, That's sinks, mine got so bad I could not get one session out of it if it was over 85 degrees. GM bought it back and I just picked up a 2016 Red 1LZ with the Z07 package and PDR/Nav 93K sticker for 75K. It's on the way Callaway for the SC757 package.

Jim what does the pdr show for fluid temps when it went in to limp mode? I'm curious which fluid overheated.

Jim can you post the full video with a screenshot of the PDR data. I'm curious how the car behaved when it went in to limp mode. Specifically did it fall on its face instantly or just roll off some boost.

My post disappeared. What was up with active handling flashing during the brake zones while in PTM Race? Then about a third of the way into the lap, the PTM mode was disengaged.

Completely stock, Anthony. I will do the upgrades once they are out as a kit. See you and that new beast soon. Put SRF fluid in the brakes and 15W50 oil in her for the NCM.

I am not good at getting and posting the data but here is what I have:

At turn 10 the car immediately slowed down to about 30-40 MPH, flashers came on, DIC said: LOW BRAKE FLUID, LOW OIL PRESSURE, HIGH OIL TEMP, Etc. It was important to watch for other cars in the red group until we got off track so I can't tell you what else it said. The car also called OnStar!

The Cosworth program showed:

Max water temp 230
Max oil pressure 51.1
Max oil temp 273
Max trans temp 167

If you notice 2nd gear was used a lot. Running the track in 3rd is slower but there are no issues.

I hope this is what you were asking.

I'm surprised you hit limp mode with those temps. None seemed to exceed a previously documented threshold. Were fluid levels ok? Low brake fluid can throw wild codes.

That doesn't sound like overheating. You've got a lot of non temp related things going on and the fluid temps don't look that bad. The oil temp is high but it's not near the shut down limit.

It kind of sounds like an electrical issue of some sort. Loose ground or battery cable? I had an exhaust leak melt an electrical connector under the motor on mine.

Keep us posted and I hope for a quick fix.

Nothing was done intentionally. I have run the car in many modes. That traction control or slipping comes on in every mode under braking. You cannot not feel it in the car. I am running Hawk 60 rear pads so maybe that has something to do with it with CCW C14 18 X 13 rear wheels with A7 345 tires. The tires are a bit taller than stock. I am not sure what all that means.

I am 72 years old and have had a great career but it is time for me to stop. I will be at the 10/10s event in a couple of weeks and that is it for this car on the track. My bones are getting less dense due to advanced prostate cancer treatments and my very supportive wife and doctors say it is time to quit.

Everything must come to an end.

Jim like Poor Sha said this isn't indicative of an overheat condition.

This is 100% an electrical problem. The braking system (low brake fluid) and the engine oil pressure warning system (low oil pressure) are 2 totally unrelated systems. The fact that you got both of these unrelated warnings as well as other warnings simultaneously tells us the communication from the data bus was lost for those systems. Generally when this happens the affected system defaults to the worst case alarm to "scare' the driver into a immediate reaction.

Have them look for a lose or water soaked connector at the PCM or as Poor Sha said burnt and or bare wires on the harness between the PCM and the engine sensor harness that feeds all of the engine sensors.

Let us know what you find out.

I'm sorry to hear that Jim. As a urologist, I can understand what you're dealing with better than most folks. That being said, drive the tires off that car for as long as you can. Or take the young rookie under your wing and teach him how to make the car dance as you did in that video. Life is about doing and enjoying what you love.
