Lost Key Fob Advice!
Long story short, the other day I lost 1 of my 2 key fobs for my 2009 Z06.
Called the dealership and was told a new key would cost $160 and that only they can program it (for an additional $50). Way more than I want to spend.
I still have another still programmed key fob in my possession. Could I get a new non programmed fob/non cut key combo off eBay and program it myself? Would the dealership cut the physical/code the physical key for me with proof of ownership?
Also I saw somewhere else the replacement needed to have same FCC number or something?
Thanks in advanced for the help

My dealer programs for free.
You need to ask the dealership about cutting the key.
FCC number is just the license to broadcast.
Good luck
Check a different dealer

Buy a new key from the C6 Parts for Sale section here or from CraigsList.
Then, use the long programming procedure found in one of the stickys. That will do 2 things:
1. It will give you 2 usable fobs, both programmed as either #1 or #2.
2. It will also make the lost fob unusable. Even if you find it, you can't reuse it without using your car to reprogram it. But a thief can't use it to steal your car.

When the fobs are programmed for your car, either at the factory, or at home, they are assigned a number by the car and the programming process.
The first fob programmed using that process will be programmed as fob #1. The next fob programmed will be programmed as fob #2. It would be extremely helpful if you actually had a fob with a #1 engraved on the bottom of the fob be programmed first. Then a fob with a #2 engraved on the bottom of it programmed next.
As far as your original question is concerned, yes, it is possible to screw up the programming and for you to wind up with a fob that is TEMPORARILY unable to be used. Eventually, though, you could still eventually get that fob programmed, either with the forum-provided process, or by a dealer.

Okay I am seeing a lot of places saying they are selling a number 1 or number 2 key fob. How do I know if the one I have/need is a #1 or #2?

Look at the number on the top of the key u have , it really does not matter as they are both the same except for the number and which one you program first

Okay so this should work in my situation?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/131934913243...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Even though it is driver #1 and the key I still have is also driver #1

Here's a link to the programming instructions.
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...tructions.html
After you open that thread, note that there are 2 different programming procedures.
The short procedure just adds 1 or more fobs to your car without affecting other fobs that are already programmed for your car. It automatically programs that first fob you program as the next fob number after the last one that was previously programmed for your car. The maximum fob number that can be programmed for your car is fob #4.
The long procedure is the one that reprograms all fobs for your car. If/when this procedure is used correctly, only the fobs you programmed with it will work for your car. Lost fobs that you don't have and have not programmed with this procedure will no longer work with your car.
