Reassembling the t&t column after years. The rod doesn't seem long enough to actuate the switch. Not sure if it's bent or not routed properly. If anyone has pictures of the rod or how it is routed, or could even just describe it really well it would be very helpful.

Posting photos of where you are currently would help. I know how and where it goes but describing it is kinda hard to do.

I've noticed the same thing with mine, which is assembled and in the car, its how I bought it. It seems like its ALMOST long enough and then I have to push the rod just a hair further manually. Is it possible that the end of the rod or the hole the rod goes into wears away a little effectively making the rod shorter?

Unlikely...it is the adjustment on the switch itself mounted on the mast jacket tube of your column or wear in the switch itself over the years. I would bet adjusting the switch will fix it.

I'll try to get some good pictures. It worked before it was disassembled. Not sure if a piece is missing or it wasn't put back together properly.

There is a uniquely shaped black piece of plastic that will now go between the rod end and the pivot to make the high beam/low beam work.

Thanks DUB for the photos. Mine also is 77 with T & T steering column. The end cap was broken so I buy a new one. I would like to know if it is possible to put it back without dismantle all the upper parts of the column or i have to dismantle everthing. I would like to know the procedure to do so either way or the other. Do you know if the AIM book by NCRS would help me if it is still available.

Hi guys! How r u, I have the same problem but I don’t know what pushes that white plastic (switch rod). I pull the lever but nothing happens and it feels loose. There is nothing that pushes the switch rod. If I push it using my hands it works but it looks like one thing is not connected to the other .
I need to know what is the missing part. If you have pictures it would be great

please excuse the quality of my art work , but looking at this picture , the piece that's missing is held along the tab (you can see a square **** in the middle of my two solid parallel lines ) the piece goes in behind that plastic cover (and is slipped into place at the same time as putting the cover on ),while holding it steady , this is really the hardest part of putting a 77 column back together , kind of a "leap of faith " hoping it has slid into position with the cover having to slide its edges under the forward jacket , grease helps it hold on too. but what it does is provide a fill piece for the tang on the end of the electrical combo switch , when you pull back on the lever that tang pushes on your missing piece , which has the same end shape as the curve on the rod end , thus pushing the rod.

BTW the square **** is moulded on the back side of that plastic cover piece.

Thank you very much for your help and for the drawings, seeing that and searching the web I think what I am missing is this black plastic.
thanks again. I have to get that part and fix it. Meanwhile I’ll keep switching lights with my hand

Yep that's it !

I had the curve the wrong way around on my technical drawing !
