The pins can be straightened, or 2mm drill bit can be sized to the same length, and be used.
Some people put a piece of 2 sided tape under the monut to keep it tight, without removing the mirror.
Here is a PDF of pics of the mount, and the fix.

The assembly base on the windshield glass is a triangular shaped object. On each side of the triangle, there are three "lips" that engage metal pins that hold the mirror tight. When the mirror is adjusted alot and over time, these 3 pins get bent a bit, and the mirror becomes loose and shakes when driving.
The pins can be straightened, or 2mm drill bit can be sized to the same length, and be used.

So the bottom line is that mirror flops I have to fork out the bucks.... I have been somewhat successful (2 hours of driving is hardly enough) with the pull and push and manhandling it to get it to firm up. It does look like that ring they talk about is messed up.... so the search begins......
I'll have to search ebay maybe I'll get lucky

Had this problem on a GMC. You might be able to find a mirror housing at a salvage yard. The housing is snapped together and easy to take apart and reassemble. Fixed mine for 10.00. The electrical connector on the back is different, on some GM cars, they are smaller. Entire mirror is expensive!
