Corvette driver stereotypes, what everyone else thinks of you.

Driver Description per this writer:
"The typical Corvette driver is a male somewhere in the neighborhood of 50-70 years old, and 8 out of 10 times you will see them wearing a hat that does not fit them well. This car is driven by older men because as children they always admired the Corvette, back when it was still cool to drive. Now that they have some money and are likely going through a mid-life crisis they decided it was a good time to live their dream. The harsh truth is that Corvettes area poor man’s Ferrari. With a rather low MSRP of around $49,500, the Corvette has been corrupted by old men that just want to have a fast cool looking sports car and have lost touch with what the best cars are these days. These are all of the people you will see driving the Chevrolet Corvette:
Old men who want to fulfill their boyhood dreams
Middle age men having a mid-life crisis and either can not afford a Jaguar, Ferrari, or Poersche, or they have lost touch with what is cool
Young guys ages 30-40 who buy the Z06 model and are actually pretty normal
Older women ages 50-70 who buy the car in white or red because Barbie drove it"

My life became a lot easier and I've become a lot happier after I learned not to care what other people think of me or my choices. I like Corvettes because I still think they are better looking than most exotics twice the price.

Good grief...that article is bunk.
I am 47 years old, and my '16 Z06 is my 8th Vette, 3 of them have been Z06's.
My first purchase was in '96 for an LT4 C4.
To each his own...I see more "old dudes" driving Mustangs and Mopar in my area, as far as domestic muscle cars go...

These stereotypes exist because people often repeat them. Usually the moron that wrote them is driving some old piece of crap and jealous of those that have something nicer. The mid-life crisis remark is just dumb and can be applied to anybody that buys a sports car when they are older and more likely have the disposable income to do so.

I've heard the mid life thing tagged to Harleys, big jacked up trucks, fast boats, hell even if some guys have cool atv's, so really anything fun. Guess i'll get a treadmill and stay inside now that im 50.

Lol, I spent the weekend kicking *** on the cool cars at the track. He forgot that description. Mid life crisis guys that like to beat up on expensive exotics and cool cars at the track. I love my crappy 650hp rocket.

Well damn, I guess I don't fit the stereotype. Thirty six years old here and on my seventh corvette. I guess I need to figure out a different mid life crisis car.
I do do find that people can be too judgemental, and in my line of business unfortunately I have to be careful what the public thinks. That's why I sometimes drive my trusty old Chevy Silverado to client meetings.

I have encountered a few people who came close to telling me that I need to start paying my fair share. "Must be nice...I wish I could afford one but I never will...If you can afford the gas..." I think I know where their votes are going.

It's not healthy to care what people think of you. There might be med's for that.

This is EXACTLY why I bought mine. I could actually afford to have paid 3x's what I paid for my Z07 and I test drove a bunch of $200+k and in the end the overall drivability of my Vette won out!!!!

If you buy a car, don't worry about what other people think. You bought the car for you, it doesn't matter if Bob down the street thinks you're in a mid-life crisis.

As someone who doesn't "fit in" with the Corvette demographic, based on local gatherings here in the SF Bay Area or observations from these forums, I find the article's descriptions to be pretty damn accurate. It takes nothing away from the cars whatsoever, but I've felt like quite an outsider on several occasions...not something I'm used to as a white, US-born American. My age, professional background, tastes/preferences, shape, style of dress, etc., make me stick out like a sore thumb in the Corvette crowd, while some in the local Porsche and Ferrari community have become close friends. Even my GF has developed personal friendships with wives/GFs she has met.

This was funny. However I always remember hearing a 20 year old girl say to her mother "Why is it that every time I see a Corvette on the road it's being driven by an ugly older bald guy". My head just snapped around lol. Sigh. Stereo types exist for BMW drivers and Volvo drivers just to name a few. What can we do but drive on.
