To ZR1 or not to ZR1 wide body conversion
Hi!
So..i have a Base ls2 coupe and always liked the wider stance to the narrow body that the base C6 come with from factory. I need so guidance onto if it is worthy doing such conversion on said car...i know, i know there are threads out there but none speak from heart like you guys would, right?!
I am being offered the (2)front zr1 Carbon fiber fenders with inner liners, zr1 bumper, zr1 (2) quarter panels with inner liners and zr1 spoiler for,$3500 shipped to me...Oh yeah they are all OEM parts. Is it a good price?
What would you guys think of such conversion? taking in consideration paint which the original color is grey and they will have to be matched to black, installation time, do i need a installation kit to make the conversion?? or it just bolts on to the existing brackets and reinforcement(bumper).
Any thoughts? Thank you in advance guys!

I think it is worth it. $3500 is not bad for all 5 panels. When i did my conversion I called Gene at Cultrag and told him what parts I did have and I think i had around $1000 in misc. parts to finish. Just depends on what hardware comes with it. Plus of course wheels and tires.

$3500 for the entire body panel set sounds really good if they are all OEM.
I know just the front OEM ZR1 fenders all on their own are insanely expensive -- about $2000 _each_ if purchased brand new!

You will definitely need a few more parts in addition to those you listed. Air ducts and other misc. parts.
Also, paint and install of course.
Also, factor in either new wheels and tires or you will have to use 1.5" wheel adapters to push your wheels out the the edge of the new body panels.
What about the grills (fender, front lower and upper, rear), are they included?
Been there, done that.
This was using aftermarket ZR1 fenders.
I also switched to Z06 brakes about a year after the first conversion.
I later switched to OEM Z06 carbon fiber fenders and a 427 carbon fiber takeoff hood.
Also, paint and install of course.

Wow your car looks awesome!
Yes these are the parts that i am thinking of getting, just as it shows on the pics.
Also i think that i will save my coins and try to go with a bigger rim, i am pushing a little power that i i don't know if i would feel confident with the spacers. The brake ducts its definitely a must

Yes, with that blower I would definitely recommend the correct wider wheels and rubber. If you're going to do it, do it right.
Your car will look awesome when you get done for sure.
Just be aware that you will never get your money back so plan on keeping it and enjoy it.

Humm for me a tough decision. If you have mad money and feel the need to burn it go for it.
Complete new up graded braking system, rims and tires will be costly.
Dunno think it is all worth it personally, and I do not like the idea of 1.5 inch spacers!!
The maggie looks great must be fun, but then a bit of overkill for trolling the streets.
Ya I get the passion just think for looks it is a bit costly.
After all it is still a Chevy!
Just trying to be the voice of reason.

Burning Brakes
I did it and I would do it over again in a second if I already had a base. Buy new rims and forget about using spacers. You don't have to upgrade the brakes and if you want them, you can always do it later.

That's an excellent price for OEM panels.
Call Gene Culley and tell him exactly what you have and he can assemble a "kit" for you to complete the install.
I did the same mod (with aftermarket ZR1 fenders) in two stages over a couple years, and would absolutely do it again.
Just be prepared to be derided as a poser on the Forum, especially from GS owners. And take the ZR1 emblems off the fenders or you will really **** them off.

I had some body work done too at the same time as I had crashed at homestead Miami speedway. The repaint was about $4500 I think... maybe less. Hard to tell with other stuff I had done.
I got it done at Ace Sullins Carstar in Miramar on 441. They also do a Ferrari race teams body work and paint. The paint was a complete off body paint job as well as doing the door jams, and color sanding for no orange peel. I also had them paint the side and rear lights body color with clear. Reflectors still work and is bright when on

With a stock power train I'd say no....swapping the body panels would be a loser deal...but since you have invested in a supercharger etc and plan to keep the car...
Go for the zr1 body panel swap at 3500 bucks...
I'm happy with my c6 "narrow body" and I believe with the blacked out c7 z51 19/20 inch rims I've altered the looks to slightly more contemporary appearance...and I personally wouldn't spend the coin for the wide body look...myself...even as nice as it is...I've achieved the look I wanted with just those rims on my black z51...
I'm leaning towards a c7 z06 as my next sports car as opposed to putting cash in my present black corvette 2008 z51 m6 npp
