What? Classic Fully Restored Red 64' Corvette! Really?
http://daytona.craigslist.org/ctd/5828190491.html
I hope this isn't someone's Corvette who is a member on here. Sorry if it is. it looks like a really nice car. It looks like you have taken good care of it and put some real work into it. Good luck with your sale.
But I am kind of a stickler for words. Restored? Hey, it is a nicely refurbished custom car. It has been rebuilt, cleaned up, redone, customized, whatever, but it isn't restored.
Why do people always advertise theirs as "restored" when they are not? Some person will buy it thinking they have this restored original Corvette and then show up here, and get quickly disillusioned by the negative comments about how it is not correct, not original, wrong this, wrong that, and get an immediate dislike for Corvette people, when they made a mistake themselves.

Wow, that is the famous 64 big block that a guy at cars and coffee told me about last weekend! He said that he sold it to buy an all steel big block 63 SWC. Geez, and I thought that he was just making that up.

bottom line, if the car is truly as stated then an asking price of 57k is fair IMO !

Some people aren't NCRS types and have a different definition of "restored", not corresponding to originality or matching numbers.
It's clearly not the dictionary definition.............
This one probably should have been called a restomod, or something similar.

And it's advertised, and posted in Mark's heading, as a 64', not a '64, So I guess it's 64 feet long.

Looking at the original ad, it's obvious that someone spent a lot of money on that car. The interior looks like it has been changed to 65 or 66 style gauges and seat covers. The door panels have been changed as well. It is a nice looking car. I could live without that speaker cover and the big "427" emblem. You could not come close to building that car for the asking price. That said, it is a resto-mod and not a restoration.

It's got the rare 427 dash pad emblem!

Okay but let's be honest if someone would buy this thinking it is original, that guy probably did 1 second of research. And in this world you can get betrayed on every corner if you wouldn't do a little research.

Looks like a nice car at a decent price.
I think some people use the word restored or restoration to mean "like new" or "rebuilt".
Where Corvette people (or Camaro or other car nuts) mean "restored to original"
I don't think the person posting that car is trying to get over on anyone. Its probably a dealer that just sees the $$.

You guys are nuts.
Arguing over stupid original details.
I was born in 53
I'm different now
My car is perfect 66 until one looks under the body.
Who cares?
Only those cottage industry's profiting from the sale of contriFite parts we pretend are old
Wake up
This stuff reminds me of tv preaching

Restoration has lost all meaning.
Here's the short version of an article I have that's coming out next week. I've been working with both the Collier Collection and the Revs Institute on the ideas here. A lot of the material was inspired by the Smithsonian.
Preservation: The essence of preservation is stabilization. Preservation is an effort to decrease the rate of deterioration. It involves maintaining the condition of the car.
Conservation: Conservation is an intervention to protect what’s there. Conservation is an attempt to manage, or at least reduce, the effects of decay that takes place on a daily basis. This is very similar to preservation except that conservation involves some type of active intervention.
Restoration: A restoration is an intervention that permanently changes the car. It’s an attempt to return the car to some previous state. In some cases this may be a state that never actually existed.
A car is basically an historical object. In many regards it's the same as a historic home. That also means we don't have to save every house in the United States. Nor do we have to save every Corvette that was ever made.
Another point is that a lot of folks live in a historic home. And, a lot of people drive historic cars. Historically significant cars are usually driven on a regular basis.
