Default * She gave her life for me. 12 yrs later put her to rest *

Guys,

This is a very sad day in my life. I've been a member here for over a decade; written thousands of posts and engaged in thousands of online conversations, and met some of you on "Corvette runs"... Until couple of years ago, I was on this forum day & night.

My C5, which I bought from MN drove to CA in 3 days - we lived together for 12 years - she finally gave her life to save mine . I don't know why, but for the last couple of days I had been really admiring her (as if I knew she'd been with me too long) for being so reliable, sexy, and paid off. I was in the process of upgrading the stereo system. She's been the most prized possession I've ever had & other than human, most emotionally bonded friend. She'd been my joy, pride, and my best friend. She never asked for much, but always reacted to my every action/reaction instantly - just the way I wanted - and saved me many times.

Actual incident - couple of days ago, while going to work I was hit by a truck from my right side that pushed me towards my left - I jumped over the divider and went into oncoming traffic, getting hit by 2 cars (one was a truck which to a head on hit to my right door & fender). The entire car's left side is disintegrated, rear glass, truck even the top all smashed up. I walked away with neck, shoulder spasm and minor concussion. I would post pix here, if I knew how to... This car was like a family member to me - everyone who knew me knew that. I am still in denial and miss it so much. I had an emotional bond with her.

I'm gonna miss her for a long time . I can never replace her, but hope to buy another Corvette someday. Thanks for listening...

Glad to her she protected you well in what sounds like a pretty serious collision.

I understand and feel your pain. I am thankful that you came out of your accident with your life and only the injuries that you stated.

Good luck and health in your future.

Geez, glad to read the story by you rather than about you.

Sad end of the car but you can get another one. Hope you heal up well.

It is really amazing how many people have walked away from bad wrecks in C5s (not all unfortunately).

Hope you had insurance and can get back in one soon!

Appreciate all the uplifting comments. I do have insurance, however, the C5 with 80K miles according to KBB is barely priced at $10K. I had suspension mods, transmission mods, air intake & exhaust mods - which I know they won't consider. But what bothers me more is the car was flawless in every way. Some people would ask me if it was the new Corvette? Sadly, the insurance won't see it that way. And the guy who started the whole thing, I don't have any info on him, because I was too shocked to act/think normal at the time. She was my best friend....gosh I miss her!

So fitting that her last "favor" to you was to let (help) you walk away from her. Sounds like a very serious crash that could've ended much worse than it did.

Glad that you're able to tell us about it. Best wishes to you moving forward.

Go after the at fault insurance for everything you added. It's not your fault. Your insurance may not pay for that stuff but theits should.

This car was a show car back in 2009, it was a model car. Here's my baby's last photo shoot. I soooo miss her......

Glad you are ok. Sorry about the car. Maybe there is a pristine C5 waiting for you in the for sale section here!

Wow! So glad you are ok...I can't believe they will only give you 10K.....I wish I qualified for stated value insurance. I would round up every receipt I could get my hands on.....

Sorry to hear about your ride, Luckily your ok and will be driving another in the not to distant future.
One thing I did after making a lot of expensive changes to my car was get declared value insurance through Hagerty, The piece of mind knowing that if something was to happen I would receive compensation reflecting what I had insured.

Honestly those pictures are tough to look at. Well built car that frankly probably saved your life. That is a really hard hit, I guess hits that it took. For certain that is not going to buff out.

Hope you can get some satisfaction on the insurance side, $10k seems way to low to me. Good luck.
