Time for a shortblock for my YSI
Welp its about time for a built shortblock for my HCI LS2 setup with a YSI. I looked into Tick , TSP , and just looked at some Thompson setups tonight. Curious about the stroker idea or staying stock size. Iron vs alum and who makes the best bang for your buck short block. Any help is much appreciated, THANKS!

Checking ERL now... Yea i see a lot of guys running the stroker style but also see ppl saying thats the rod isnt meant for boost bc it drops down so much. It just looks like every damn builder offers 80 versions of 402-408 but like 1 364-376 . On paper the 364-376 blocks are always built to "lower HP" ratings too which is weird. Thompson was saying on the 408 iron 900 hp rating 1100 with full ARP upgrade. Every other builder is saying 650-800 max on the others decent priced 376 style.

Ppl over do it most of the time spending 10k on a name brand short block. I used a local builder to me and have a 376ci forged ls3 capable of 1000hp if pushed. I have less than 4k $ in the build and it runs like a top.

i only have a ECS stage 1 fuel kit if of now, I understand to bump it up it wont take much . Prc Stage 2.5 cnc ported 243's , Vengeance ported FAST 102mm with NW102 ,ID 850's , holley EFI rails and Z06 pump, had a big NA cam but now i think ill go with a BTR stage 3 blower cam or custom grind. Id like to be at 800-850 reliably and have room to up it in the future a litte.

First off don't worry about adding a 4" stroke crank, good forged rods, and at your power lvl goals, quality pistons made for boost.
Use a good engine builder that knows LS to do it to work and make decisions on crown size, compression ratio, etc. Many shops have custom diamond pistons or Wisco pistons made for "boost".
So to the block itself, technically you could stay with the LS3 or LS2 / but a 4 inch crank in it, forged rods and pistons, gap for boost and call it a day. The stock blocks can handle this HP range for sure, it's when you way room for the future than make me think LSX / DART SHP / ERL and you will be happy. This will come down to price, what your engine builder uses, and LS parts you can re-use in the build. Enjoy the journey, I am!

Amazing reads right there, thank you! I spoke with vengeance some and they said all they really build are stroker motors for boost. So its looking like a 402-408 is probably where im gonna stay. But through who im not really sure, TMS seems to use K1 rods and crank with diamond pistons . Ive never really heard of K1 myself, not saying anything bad but just never heard. Manley, Lunati, and callies are kinda household names to me.
My budget isnt crazy but 5-6k is kinda what im looking to spend on something to get me into that 800hp bracket While staying reliable.

K1 8/ weisco I wouldn't be turned off to use them they are a good brand. All the aftermarket forged big names are good metal and forged and will do the job for what your trying to do. Don't over think it bud

We are no longer offering shortblocks to ship out, but do refer all customers to Bryan @ LME for these types of combinations. Give him a call and he'll be happy to help you out with what you need.

Easy enough! Iron it is , some of the guys were kinda moving me towards aluminum for weight . but for strength i think its a no brainer honestly. I need to look into LME now!
