Changing it before storage is correct. Driving it home from the dealer before storage is also ok. No need to change it after storage, just drive it. It is after all, synthetic oil. Clean synthetic oil does not degrade over winter. BTW, my dealer charges under $80 for a Mobil 1 oil and filter change (and) they drive me home and back to the dealer when it's done.

I think that would be a little risky; new oil needs proper break-in. If not broken in properly, then you run the chance of damage to the wiggly bearing on the wobbly shaft. You don't even want to know the cost of fixing this screw up.

The whole point in changing the oil before storage is to eliminate the contaminants that dirty oil has in it. Why change it and then drive it a few weeks before storage? Change it just before storage.

What does the Oil Life say? just curious.

I change my oil when it say <15% -- sometimes it take 2 years. It is a waste of good money if you change it early.

If you have the ability to change the oil/filter yourself, you can do it for ~ $45.00 US. I use Mobil 1 EP and a M1 filter. I buy the 5 qt container, plus another quart and fill with 5.5 qts. Then I still have a .5 qt for the next change.

Your car should take 6 quarts of oil with a filter change. Why are you putting in only 5.5 quarts of oil?

You should be changing your oil at least once a year no matter what the oil life monitor says.

What's the hurry to change it now? Change when ready to store it. I actually change the oil in the spring when I take it out of storage so it's fresh for the season. Synthetic oil will do no harm sitting over the winter.

Note the C$ folks, that's only about US$90. High, yes but probably not that outrageous for a dealer. Does that include taxes or do you have to add ~15% taxes too?

I would not change it for winter then drive weeks, you will get a little buildup of acids and contaminants in the oil. The whole point of changing before storage is to get them all out. A day is OK, a month is too much, where to draw the line? I don't know.

Mobil 1 does not go bad just sittin there.. every 2 years is just fine.

I had a lawn mower I never did change oil in it... lots of hours every year.. 20 years later it was still running strong with original factory oil -.

My Lexus Rx - dealer kept wanting me to bring it in for its 30K,, then the 50 k and then the 75K maintenance -- never did change the differential fluid or the tranny fluid.. sold it with 130k miles on it. Ran great. I traded in on a BMW. And yes if you looked up Carfax on it -- it showed oil changes every 5-6K. but that is about it.

I am sure my 2 Grandsports will go over 100K just fine. - Oil changes every 8K miles or so.. but here's to ya

I get mine changed at the dealership and it costs me that much. Not a big issue really spent more on other crap I didn't need.

The owners manual states the following but it is your car so you can do whatever you chose.

When the Change Engine Oil Message Displays, change engine oil and filter. See Engine Oil on page 6‐19. An Emission Control Service. When the Change Engine Oil message displays, service is required for the vehicle as soon as possible, within the next 1 000 km/600 miles. If driving under the best conditions, the engine oil life system might not indicate the need for vehicle service for more than a year. The engine oil and filter must be changed at least once a year and the oil life system must be reset. Your dealer/retailer has trained service technicians who will perform this work and reset the system. If the engine oil life system is reset accidentally, service the vehicle within 5 000 km/3,000 miles since the last service. Reset the oil life system whenever the oil is changed. See Engine Oil Life System on page 6‐25.

Is there any incentive here for Chevy to recommend oil changes at the dealer every year ?,, and any incentive for the oil company like Mobil to recommend it? Think about it?

What is to age on Mobil 1 that 2 years would degrade it? Mobil says the shelf life is about 5 years.,

Also - where you live has a lot to do with this, here is Seattle our yearly range of temps is about 30° - 82° F or so. If I lived in the colder part of Good Ole US of A-- as in 0° - 110° F I'd probably change it every year also.

Canadian Tire has 5-30 synthetic oil on sale every other week in their flyers. Wait for that, buy a filter of choice and do it yourself for less than $50.00 Can$$
The last time I let GM dealer change my oil, it took a 5 lb sledge hammer and cold chiesel to remove the oil filter.
