Default Tried...FAT32 SD cards not recognized for PDR

I have searched, and read many threads on the subject:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...2-for-pdr.html

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-question.html

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...mera-help.html

-Just to name a few...

HOWEVER, 2 SD Cards I've tried STILL aren't recognized. The car is a 2015 3LT Z51. I have a 2GB (Sandisk) and a 32GB (Sony), and formatted both to FAT32 using both the Windows program, and the EaseUs Partition program. Both programs successfully format both cards to FAT32, no problems there. I am using the glove box SD slot (not the slot in the armrest). Neither SD card is "locked." But the PDR still sees no cards present! I am going to Spring Mountain November 28-29, and I want to bring an SD card that I know works. What am I missing?

Also tried the "Guiformat" program, and formatting on a Mac. Both formatted without a problem, but car still won't recognize. If I had another SD card, I would try it, on the off chance I had two non-compatible ones, but I don't. Has anyone had problems with a nonfunctional PDR SD card reader?

I have not had issues at all. Used both a 2gb and 16gb card. I would say stop by your dealer as there may be something wrong.

Don't the SD cards have to be Class 6 or higher?

Windows will format a 32GB or smaller card natively. There is no need for a third party utility. Does your PC recognize the card?

Yes, the windows format utility was the first thing I tried. It formatted it fine, and yes, my computer, and my wife's Mac, recognizes the cards fine. The car does not. That's why I tried the other formatting programs. Still not working. Looks like I will indeed need to go to the dealer.

CORVETTE STINGRAY AND Z06 PERFORMANCE DATA RECORDER QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE

The Performance Data Recorder (PDR), available on 2015 Corvette Stingray and Corvette Z06 models,
allows you to record, share and analyze your driving experiences on and off the track. For full
details on how it operates, see the 2015 Corvette Owner’s Manual or see your Chevrolet dealer.

1. INSERT YOUR SD CARD TO BEGIN, INSERT AN SD CARD INTO THE GLOVE BOX SD CARD READER (OWNER’S MANUAL: 7-1)
• FAT32 Formatted and Class 10 (8GB, 16GB or 32GB recommended)
• Recorded data is not stored anywhere else and is only accessible from the SD card

Please note: It is recommended that a blank SD card be used for Valet Mode or normal recording.

I guess that I got lucky with my Sandisk and Kingston 32 GB cards. They worked just fine right out of the package in my 2016.

And nice avatar Speedforhire!

How much time are you giving it to detect the card? Seems like I've seen might take several minutes before recognizing the card and I'm running a 128 GB card...

I had a 32G class 10 micro sd card out of my old Samsung Galaxy S4. I put in in the SD adapter that makes it full size. Connected to my computer and erased all previous files. Put it in my 2016 z06 and worked fine. No re-formatting at all.

I'll try giving it a few minutes, but I hadn't read anywhere before that it was needed. Gonna schedule a dealer visit, but I will try suggestions in the meantime, and update if anything works.

Default I use a 64 GB card no problem

I did format on a Mac as FAT32 and have had no issues, the factory format (as FAT32) didn't work so I am guessing their might be a Microsoft issue..
2016 using the glovebox SD card..

Class 10 is the recommended minimum.

I just formatted a new 64 GB SanDisk Extreme Plus (Class 10, 90MB/s) using the OS X Disk Utility. It came formatted as ExFat. I set the format to MS-DOS (FAT), and the Scheme (Partition Map) to Master Boot Record. This latter point was critical. If you mistakenly set the Scheme to GUID Partition Map or Apple Partition Map, it will not be readable.

Default SD Card Format

I did the exact same thing and it worked like a champ.Initially I tried "Exfat" , then read the PDF given and suggested formatting in "MSDOS" because most systems read it as FAT32.
I read an article where it said that using the slower "class" cards would work but performance would suffer.

I went to Best Buy and purchased two 32 GB cards. They were already formatted. All I did was take them out of their packages and stick them in the slot and they worked. Don't try to format them. Just buy them and use them.

That was the first thing I tried. Only after they did not work did I try to format them.

Also tried formatting with a Mac using the above mentioned tips, still no go.

Got an appointment at dealer on Wednesday 11/2/2016. Frankly I hope it is something simple I'm doing wrong, I'd prefer they not have to tear open my dash to replace hardware.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Bill, It depends on the card whether or not it comes formatted as FAT32 or EXFAT. The latter is a newer format which permits files larger than 4GB, which is useful when recording video, and is therefore more common on 64 and 128GB cards. Unfortunately, the PDR needs FAT32.

I don't see how you could be doing anything wrong if you bought a brand new card and it didn't work. That's what Bill Dearborn and I did as well. You sure you're hitting the PDR icon and not the camera-looking thingie icon??
