Default what to look for when buying 06 or 07 Zo6.

I'm looking for a C6 Z06 and most in my price range are 06s and 07's. I have been told by a few people to stay away from the 06 completely. Is this true? and what kinds of issues do they have? should I focus only on an 07?

No, they don't know their azz from a hole in the ground.

No, 7's I think had rocker arm issues on some [I believe], but most have been addressed already.

what kinds of issues do they have?

From 6 -13 they all had different possible issues.

7-8 rocker bearings
13 had rod bearing issues
6-13 valve guides

They are all great cars and 6 was the lightest and they gained a few pounds after that.

Any year is great. Buy the newest nicest one you can afford.

All of them have head issues so just be aware of that.

Buy what you can afford. An 06 or 07 Z06 is NOT a new car. Most have been driven at least a few miles, so any problems should be taken car of by now (except for maybe the heads). DO NOT be afraid. Reading the many thousands of threads on this forum should help. Good luck.

i looked for a year and bought a 2006 Z a few weeks ago. And I'm as meticulous as anybody.

Get the year, color and options that suit your budget and plans and don't look back.

I say get the least expensive one that matches your criteria. MY doesn't matter all that much. Most things a 06 is missing can be upgraded over time anyway. If you were going to HPDE or AutoX the car seriously, you'd want the larger oil capacity of the later years. Otherwise, buy something well maintained and cheap!

As an owner of an 06, there's nothing wrong with this year that isn't in the other model years (heads).

There were some options that weren't released until later years and there were some improvements made along the way such as a larger oil reservoir and TR6060 transmission but nothing inherently wrong.

The upgrades that maybe worth it would be things like mag ride, PTM and other 2010+ things that are not easy/cheap/possible to add.

Tranny is a complete non-issue and many perfer the t56. Oil tank is cheap and easy to upgrade if you do track, but track days will require a lot more than just an oil tank upgrade, no matter what the year. Interior upgrades are cheap/easy. Axle upgrades are cheap/easy.

So unless you want to spring for a car with carbon brakes ($8k+), mag ride, or PTM, it really doesn't matter because you can easily add on anything else.

As far as the trans I will be drag racing the car. which one has less issues and is easier to shift at high RPM the T56 or the TR6060? The car will only get drag radials and nitrous. I want the car to be quiet and stock because this is a summer daily driver i will drive to work daily. Just needs to be a 10 sec car for street races lol. I prefer no magnetic ride because it is expensive when it fails. How do I know which cars have it and which do not?

Both transmissions are reasonably strong and reliable. The TR6060 is stronger but either will suit your purposes.

TR6060 came in 2008+
Mag ride was an option in 2011+

Almost all the cars on the "fast" list are t56 and many people say the t56 shifts better at high RPM. For drag racing I would 100% select a t56 over the 6060. For extended 1/2 mile or 1 mile races where 5/6th gear are being used, and 1000+hp is common the 6060 becomes a better option.

For <800rwhp drag racing, I don't think I've ever seen or heard of someone hurting a t56.

I don't own a Z06 yet but from what I read the 2006's have an issue with leaking roofs that were addressed in a recall. So I would make sure no water damage and make sure it doesn't have any open recalls. I am in the same boat as you I am currently looking at the 2006-2008 price range.

Was never a leaking roof issue. Issue was roofs flying off. Should have been fixed by now, if not dealer will fix it at no cost as a recall.

If going to drag race, you might as well plan on a set of heads for piece of mind.

If you plan on ever starting the car, you should plan on a set of heads for peace of mind.

Well I guess if your roof flew off, you would most definitely have a leak issue.

The roofs don't leak but they do fly off.......it was addressed in a recall. The lamination process was defective . They tried to re-glue it as an earlier fix but that didn't work so replacement was the final solution.

What is wrong with 600hp and a little wet pavement LOL

I run a few hundred rain miles a year with a 200hp 430lb motorcycle, so I have no problem driving my car. Mine is outside and a DD and it does great.
