Babying my first sports car
Stupid question but want to protect this investment. In 1st gear using the paddles how high can I go before going to second? I have 550 miles and I see the yellow circle is that when or can I go to the red?

Its no different then any other car. Red line is Red line.

Redline is 6,500 RPM.

If the tach only has 550 miles, you're still in break in right? Someone correct me if I'm wrong: during the break in mileage, the yellow line is the suggested rev limiter. The yellow line gradually rises as you get closer to the end of break in.

The yellow line will go to the normal warmed up position at 500 miles. As for RPM, even now I seldom go higher than 5,000 RPM, might see 5,500 occassionally.

Fuel cut off is 6600 RPM. Manual mode going from 1st, you might wanna pull the paddle around 6k as any later it will be bouncing off the limiter by the time it shifts. Can probably pull it 6300 in 2nd, and closer to fuel cutoff after that. If you have 550 miles on the car, you need to go out, give her hell, and see how she runs.
If you bounce off the limiter no biggie. To be honest, I'm not even sure you can bounce off the limiter in an A8. It might shift even in Manual mode. Never tried bouncing off it in an A8, but I get into it here and there in my M7.

Torque and horsepower cross at 5200 rpm so I usally aim for 5000 rpm, 2016 A8 1LT Coupe

They cross at that rpm on every car. HP is a mathematical equation derived from TQ. It just happens that they are equal at that rpm. That is not the optimal point to shift.

Red ine is a limit, bouncing off the limiter will exceed the limit if only by a small amount. The extra stress could show up in the future.

Yep, ya got me. I will be in fuel cutoff all the time. I feel that will be more enjoyable. I am completely insane like that. Wait, that's what is meant by shifting at redline right? No? Then why would someone say this? Not sure? Me either.

Also note that you will get a reduced redline when the engine is cold. As the engine temperature climbs to normal operating conditions, the redline will creep back up to standard redline.
