Knocking sound from tranny in 79 4-speed
I launched My 79 4 speed a little hard yesterday and immediately a knocking noise began just under the shifter it feels like. It is very loud but only presents while accelerating.
The clutch also found several inches of play and has to be depressed almost to the floor now to disengage but the car can drive and I did make it home.
trying out figure out if this is a blown clutch or something else? never had this issue so that I'd ask, thanks!

How about a broken transmission or engine mount? The sound could be coming from U-joint contact. Also sound could be from exhaust thumping cross member.
