Default Just a question about Georgia

How are the smog laws in Georgia? We are looking to relocate from California to a wonderful free state. Just want to make sure before I drop a new cam and longtubes in.

A 'free' state.
Georgia is indeed great. I live just 30 minutes north of the state border. I'll let the GA boys comment on specifics but there isn't a darn thing here in NC unless you live in a large metro area like Charlotte where they do have some emissions testing. Everything 'rural' is just visual and making sure the horn, wipers, and lights work. All for a whopping $12 or so. I bet GA is similar.

Plenty of modded vehicles here in Ga. Vengeance is just north of ATL. Certainly not like Commiefornia.

Vengeance puts out some great cars that can pass emissions test.

The Atlanta metro area has emissions testing and the rest of the state does not.

This should be helpful:

http://www.dmv.org/ga-georgia/smog-check.php

I live in Bartow county which is adjacent to Cobb and Paulding, which both have emissions requirements however Bartow does not. I'm sure at some point Bartow will require it, but it's probably not in the near future as most of the county is still pretty rural.

You are so close to the Univ of GA in Athens. The whole area is really nice IMO. I'm in that area once in awhile for car shows. Lawrenceville isn't very far away either and that's where an Atlanta Corvette club www.corvettecruisersofatlanta.com had their show recently. Really nice folks!! The area around Athens seems to be growing quite a bit. Lots of 93 premium, and cheap too. Just filled up at a Chevron for $2.74 in a nearby GA town. That's probably real inexpensive compared to CA.

I live in Winder which is just up the road from Bogart.....You will love the area....and the fact there are no emission laws there. Bogart is a small town within a short drive on anything you want to get to. Braselton (Road Atlanta) is about 20-30 minutes away...Commerce (Atlanta Dragway) is just up the road from that....

Like McGuire.42 said, there's emissions testing in the Atlanta area. In the rest of Georgia, pretty much anything goes!

As long as you don't throw a CEL, gas cap functions and you appear to have cats you should be fine. They don't actually test the tailpipe.

You'll enjoy it. Lots of a variety and some great roads throughout the state for driving. Nice change of seasons as well with fairly mild winters. The absolute worst part is the traffic around Atlanta, but depending where you're from in CA that's probably something you're used to.

As mentioned not all counties have smog check, but for those that do it's a rolling 25 year period. No safety inspections at least.

Good luck!

Hello all. We will be flying out the 3rd-6th of December to look at houses. What areas should we avoid? Right now we are pretty open.

$14 emissions test right near me and as long as you don't have a CEL, you'll pass. They don't even look for cats.
