Default When was oil consumption issue finally fixed?

I heard that the oil consumption issue was solved by another piston ring design. Furthermore, this made it into early '02 model year production.
Now my question: In which month was the design change really?

It was all 2002's and coincided with the 2002's bump to 405hp

So in earlier models these cars were under powered due to oil consumption...when they fixed that issue the horsepower went up...lol...

Hmm...
I found this article:
http://www.c5registry.com/2k2z06/page5.htm
Stating that by April '01 the new design made it into production. Due to other statements I was under the impression that early '02 were also concerned. Hence, my question.

Horsepower went up due to a better cam, removal of pup cats, lighter sodium filled valves, better flowing MAF sensor, and better free flowing air filter and housing.

The oil consumption issue was limited to 2001 cars with a low tension ring design when driven by owners who buzzed their engines by driving around in the lower gears at light load and over 3500 rpms. It was resolved by replacing that one ring in the field. GM sent full ring packages to the dealerships and the mechanics replaced one ring on each piston and tossed the remaining rings. GM changed the ring used in 2002. It was another one of those big internet to do things that made a mountain out of amole hill because of a few owners that liked to make noise.

I remember reading about it at the time, it was a huge issue. Weren't some cars burning a qt every 1k miles in some cases? I would have been furious about it too if my new $50k performance car did that, I would have demanded my dealer fix it as well.
