White or Gold with Red
Now that my 65 coupe is back on the road and all of the "fetting" is complete I am ready to deal with tires. I had planned to switch out my white stripes for gold lines on the knockoffs. After driving the car for a while, the white walls are growing on me. The car is rally red and I have never seen a red C2 coupe with gold lines. Searching the web I found a few pictures, but they are not great quality and you really can't see what the package looks like. I am not into the NCRS style of restoration, but do like a car that looks stock so that seems to rule out red lines which might look great. Before I spend the money on Diamondbacks, I would like to see the options. Anyone have a red coupe with gold lines?
Thanks,

I just put diamondback redlines on a laguna blue '66. Wrong I know, but I prefer the redlines.

Thanks, I guess that I just need to see the real thing. I agree that red lines look great. I have them on my Lyndale blue 67 and I love the look. Reds on a red car might be too much.

I think red and gold would be a clash...purely personal opinion...

Thanks for the great pictures everyone. I need to restore my knockoffs and I was planning to do the tires when I did that. The whites that are on the car are almost new and I am leaning toward putting them back on. It's interesting how much the tires show up depending on the color of the stripe. I thought about using a couple of the reds from my 67 to see how they look on the 65 but one has rally wheels and the other has knockoffs. Thanks again for the replies.

I think it also depends on the color of the top/interior (but I'm pretty OCD).
The knock-offs I bought from a local forum member came with red stripes, and I think they look great with my rally red/white top '65.
Right now mine is down for an engine swap this winter, but the tires, while looking good, are getting long in the tooth so I am also interested in the opinions on this thread.
I think that given the tall sidewalls of these older sized tires, that a marginally wider whitewall, say 5/8", might lessen the tall black tire look.

I considered redlines, going with black walls and finally decided white walls and put them on my 65 FI Coupe. It's your car, do what's makes you happy. I personally like the WW but have seen the various combinations on cars and they all look pretty good.

That's exactly what my car looks like except mine is not a fuelie. Do you happen to know what color sealer is under the red paint? My car has rally red over a white sealer and it looks just like to photo in the hangar. When I was prepping for paint, I tested the color over red, gray, and white sealer. The difference was amazing. The liter color sealer makes the red really pop. The white walls that I have on it now are a narrow stripe just a bit wider than the gold line. In the end, I like them all. Since the white lines have almost new tread I think that I will just put them back on. That way I can wait and see if I can see the gold lines in person. Thanks again for all of the help.
