Default Scratched my new car

I bought a Grand Sport 24 hours ago and managed to scratch the front air dam. I'm not sure it this is something the might be able to sand out to repair rather the replacing it. I somehow think this is going to happen a lot. I went to a Corvette club dinner I parked next to a Stingray I tried to pull up even with it only to realize that that car had for more clearance I hit the curb about two feet before I was even close to getting even with him. I never even look at the camera because I thought the other car would have been a benchmark for me. I guessing anyone here with a Grand Sport or Z06 have had this happen at least once!

The air dams are basically sacrificial pieces of plastic that do two things:

1. They perform an aerodynamic function at higher speeds.

2. They are an early warning system telling you that something important is about to get really hurt.

A lot of people including myself simply took them off. I got tired of the scraping.

Do you have a 2LT or 3LT? If so you have front view cameras. Pause a few feet out and hit the camera icon on the infotainment screen. Or put it into reverse and then back into a forward gear (or D). The front view cameras should show up on the screen. They are there for this very purpose. Well that and for the PDR.

I don't take chances with curbs. Either use front camera for safety or use back camera and pull into parking spot just far enough to be in spot and out of travel lane.

On my C6 it scraped all the time I stopped worrying about it I could never see any damage but this is different and maybe I'm describing it wrong this is the part that sticks out the farthest on the nose of the car and is exposed so you can see the scratches. This is not just under the car and hard to see. I'm thinking I may be able to sand it a little to smooth it out.
If I wasn't parking right next to another C7 I would have been more concern about the curb. I was nowhere near even with him I would have checked the camera as I got close but the other Vette was not a Grand Sport and therefore has far more clearance he pulled over the curb until his tires where just about touching.

There are no scratches on the paint just reflections from the flash.

I'd surely love those new front cameras!

That's your front splitter and in reference to your comment " guessing anyone here with a Grand Sport or Z06 have had this happen at least once!"....no, it does not. That's what the camera's are for or back in. You can have that filled and painted or replace it OEM.

It's just plastic, so you could sand it smooth, but it'll look funny next to the rest of it unless you paint it. I think they look better painted myself. The splitter is around $110 if you want to just replace it.

I like 1LT so I wouldn't get the cameras. Any advice about how to pull in front first and avoid scraping the splitter on the curb?

Keep in mind if you have the Carbon Fiber package .. the front splitter is not plastic .. its a $2K MSRP part ...

The front splitter is actually labeled an "Air Dam" on the box from GM's vendor who manufacturers them.

The use of the word "air dam" is certainly a proper description.

I put the same stage 1 splitter on my base Stingray, and have never scraped it.. It still has a full 6" of clearance, which by Corvette standards is huge.

Default C7

I own a 2017 GS with full carbon fiber CFV skirts and chin spoiler and I still think the car is a 4X4 and need to be lowered 3/4 of an inch !! my 2011 Gs had full Zr1 carbon fiber skirts and was way lower and I never hit it once !! If you seen the underground I would pull out of each day you would say how does he do it !! the new C7 is by far the highest corvette I have seen in last 20 years !! and they come with curb camera !!

Turns out he was talking about his splitter, which is NOT sacrificial.

In the pic it looks like the poverty splitter. If it's just the poverty splitter, I consider that somewhat disposable. Do they rivet the thing on from the factory? If it's all screws, then it's about a $110 and 30 minute job to swap. If there's rivets like what comes with the kit, then you gotta drill the rivets to get the thing off. Either way no biggie. Mine got smooshed so I removed it, sanded it down and plastidipped the thing. Looked great till it got smooshed again. More plastidipping and looks good again. It's gonna get trashed, especially if you lower the car.

I'd never buy the car with an expensive splitter or put an expensive one on the car. You're just pissing off the car gods...
