Default Improved Racing LT1/LT4 oil cooler thermostat

I was hoping something like this would release soon. I believe this could help many with oil temp issues by eliminating the stock oil cooler from the equation. The only real issue I see, and the one that has plagued many, is where to put a separate plate style cooler, but if one can be mounted, possibly with auxillary fans, I don't see how or why this could not be the solution to super high oil temps. On the M7 cars at least, the water temps can be controlled with the GMPP secondary cooler and a decent radiator as has been my experience.

We have something very similar coming out. Ours will be available as a kit with the oil cooler and lines also. It includes an adapter block which also has an optional port for temp sensor relocation. The cooler is a 10 plate oil-to-water cooler.

Now we just need a good place to mount a heat exchanger.

You could go with a fan-forced unit but there's just not much room on these cars even for that! But I think being able to shed any heat outside the radiator airflow path would be a big win.

An oil-to-water unit would help cool the oil, obviously, but would put that extra load on the main radiator. So I'd prefer air-to-air IF there were a good place for it, but that might just not be realistic.

Our kit will include a mounting bracket. It's very complete.

Where will the heat exchanger be mounted Jason?

Let's put it at the top of the windshield right in the slip stream. GM would clearly say it's for track use only and should be removed after the track day. Would it look stupid? Yes, of course. Would it get good airflow? Absolutely.

I still wish someone would design a rear wing that housed an internal cooling system. Just plumb the oil to circulate across the wing and back to the engine.

I don't know why, but this pops into mind.....

In line with the lower radiator hose behind the fan.

Why did you choose to go with an oil/water heat exchanger?

We already know that the GM oil/water 'cooling' solution has been totally inadequate in keeping the engine oil/water within safe limits; in the A8's when driven in 'D' mode anyway? Sure you're going to increase the size of the heat exchanger somewhat, but wouldn't a free standing air/oil cooler in that position; (bracket mounted to the brace just below the lower radiator fan and core behind the radiator fan/in front of the PS motor), have been a better solution?

Any concerns with blocking airflow to the PS motor with your product?

TIA,

Bish

We have had a lot of success with these air-to-water coolers. We have been using this brand of cooler in Trans Am TA2 class cars powered by Katech engines which have been racking up championships over the last few years. So we went to this supplier and had them private label manufacture this version for the C7. We didn't want to make another oil-to-air cooler, find somewhere to mount it, and add yet one more thing blocking airflow through the radiator.

No concerns with the power steering motor. We have track tested this product and saw no issues.

Great news, and I'm looking forward to seeing the product.

Do you have data on EOT's with/without the oil cooler on the same day/same track?

Water temps?

How soon before pictures and pricing available?

We don't have any A-B testing on the track.

Here is a pic of it installed.

No date on pricing or availability until I finalize some component cost/time with an outside supplier.

ordered the oil cooler thermostat for my 15 Z07 with the Halltech oil to air intercooler... Can't get my oil temp above 160(such a problem) and I think that is not enough... This should help

Another advantage of oil-to-water. It's easier to get the oil up to operating temperature once the coolant thermostat opens.

Yes, but taking it out of the engine coolant circuit has been a major advantage for engine temps

All of our pro race cars use oil-to-water coolers. If you keep your coolant temperature in check, which we are on the C7 Z06, it's more effective.

The big challenge has been with an A8 and the limited ducting available while maintaining a "stock" appearance

Can you talk more about the "Halltech oil to air intercooler"?

I find nothing for the C7 on their site about an additional engine oil cooler.

If you have pictures, etc that would be great.

TIA.
