Is there a successor to the LT1 in the works?
I'm interested if anyone has any substantial info on the possibility/likelihood/plans for a replacement for the LT1 (similar to the LS2->LS3 of the C6).
I did some internet searching but found nothing. Is GM going to stick with the LT1 through the entire C7 lifecycle?
Happy Holidays.

Seems like it. The LS3 was a big improvement on the LS2, and it was done in year 3 of the C6 run. We are already in year 4 and there wasn't any change.

Well, there is this: http://www.chevrolet.com/performance...58530_67918104
But, I don't think that will replace the LT1, since it may not be good for mileage. Maybe for the GS only? Probably not. They have to keep the MPG up to meet the governments increasingly tight fuel economy standards.

That's neat - it's off-road, non-emissions compliant - a smog legal variant would be cool.

The LS3 coming out so fast was more to do with the LS2 being insufficient in the HP wars and less about GM wanting to do a new engine. It also provided an opportunity to "fix" some issues with the LS2. What those specifically are, is anyone's guess, but I'm sure there are reasons. Maybe they used the LS7 knowledge to make the LS3.
Regardless there is unlikely a newer engine as the LT4 is a supercharged LT1 and the new ZR1 is going to basically be a souped up LT4 (larger supercharger). So you've got no where to draw the engineering knowledge from. A clean sheet type design isn't in the cards yet.
There is the DOHC V8 in the works for Cadillac, but that won't package in a Corvette (engine and heads are too "tall" in a DOHC versus a OHV). The rumored flat-plane and twin turbo variants are based on the DOHC engine from what I understand, so that rules them all out.
Basically you'll see GM's next version of the OHV engine in the base C8. But there were rumors at one point of an HP bump in 2018, so it is possible I suppose (I'd argue that would basically be a retuned LT1).

I'm thinking in 2018 you will see a new motor or a HP bump just to keep buzz going and more magazine articles swirling in the faces of potential buyers just as the G/S has done for the 17 model year. GM has learned that even little tweaks like maybe 50 more horsies will make some trade and put fence sitters into the seat of an 18. The ZR1 will be the big feature car of 2018 but at a 100K+++ price point and limited production they still need to invigorate the rest of the line. I'm thinking you might even see an interior tweak or two in 2018. It's only a few months to the Bash and by February we should be hearing leaks.

I know what you mean. I waited for the 2017 model year, hoping for something like the Grand Sport. In that sense I was rewarded, but I was also hoping for a bump in HP as well. I figured around 500HP would be nice. I didn't want to roll the dice and wait another year. I could be waiting forever with that approach!
But still, if they do bump up HP next year, it's hard to say that's a bad thing. I always like to see Corvettes improved! And, from what I've experienced driving my 2017 GS so far, it seems that 460HP is plenty for the Grand Sport!

A guess on history past. Remember the Grand Sport! GM tends to repeat its success's every generation. I think the hand writing is on the wall if you look backwards. Maybe not HP maybe the A10? It's going to be something. Not unlike every generation getting a steering wheel modification a year or two in.
