Wife's '71 Vette
Here's the wife's '71 vette I'm restoring. Ready to block sand for Eye Kandy Apple Red paint. Got the L-88 hood from Eckler's finally fitting the body. Had to raise the front about 1/4 inch to match it, and fill a 1/4" dip in the center of the scoop. Also put on the front spoiler and blended it with the fenders after filling and grinding.
Cut in a slot to drain water and make it functional to draw hot air from engine compartment.
Found out why her carb was getting corroded. With all the alcohol they're putting in the fuel now, it's absorbing water that reacks havoc on the fuel system. You would be amazed how much water I drain out of this every week.

Make sure that you're not getting water into the gas tank thru the filler. If the rubber drain assembly isn't installed properly, water will somehow leak into the tank-especially when the car is repeatedly washed while wet sanding. I'm speaking from experience!

My '72 is garage kept and damn seldom if ever in the rain....so I took off the pesky rubber drain arrangement from the gas cap area.....among many other mods on the gas tank shituation, and FI being added....

looks great. With that slot cut in your hood, do you notice if its lost ridgity. I was considering the same thing

Oh, good point. She was having the problem with carb corrosion long before I started with the body work, and some time ago I replaced the old cap with a new locking cap that seals a lot better, and the drain is open and free, but I can definitely see how you could get water in the tank otherwise. Very few cars in our area use premium fuel, so I'm thinking that this may be why there is so much water in the fuel. Anyway, it appears I've solved the problem by using the filter, since it's been running wonderful now.

Haven't noticed anything. The hood from Eckler's is pretty well reinforced, so I don't expect any issues with that, but there was a big dip in the center of the scoop that I had to fill with glass. I was a little surprised at that.
