What will the 2018 Z06 look like??Will it be the same as 17 but only a few more colors?? Is the ZR1 just going to take it over???

it's still a c7 platform so nothing major. The zr1 won't be that major of an improvement either as it's a c7 platform too--- some different trim work /aero mods and mods to the supercharger and tune to one up the hellcat horsepower rating--- biggest change will be a 20k mark up on the sticker

We should hopefully know more in January at the Detroit auto show. If the camo mule is not a ZR1 and is simply the new 2018 Z06 with additional aero track package options, I think the deals for the 2017 Z06 models will exceed the fire sale deals on the 2016 models we just went through. Personally, I can't imagine that GM would go to the extend of "fixing" the cooling issues for the 2017 model only to offer a more drastic improvement for 2018. I'm still thinking it's going to be a ZR1 primarily due to the one spy shot with the blue calipers. However, that may just be GM having fun with us and going in a completely different direction. I don't expect GM to move into the C8 platform until the C7 takes down the Viper ACR.

The Z is about to play second string again to the ZR1.

I don't think it did in the C6 days, so I don't know why you said "again". There were a lot of people such as myself that respected the powertrain but couldn't get past the plastic window looking at a plastic cover that you look upon from a largely plastic interior. I could have afforded to "upgrade" to a ZR but never really felt it as an upgrade - the car seemed "right" with the 427. Then again I just like 427s in all forms for some reason. It's the perfect displacement somehow.
Not that the C6Z had a better interior, but it served the purpose of being light. To me the C6 made sense as a light platform. The C7 is a "throw it all in and add more than enough horsepower to compensate" platform. It's not a GT car, but it's definitely different than the C6.
To put it all simpler, the old Z made sense on the C6 platform and what we have now, this heavier supercharged version, should have been the ZR1. Then a lighter, more track-friendly Z should have come along about now.
But given they're selling pretty well, I probably shouldn't be telling GM how to do their business. They seem to have it figured out.

Will it be mid engine? Maybe if we keep asking we'll make up the information.

Dave396 makes some good points. A ZR1 was an ideal option for those who wanted high performance but NOT a stiff riding track car. Given that the majority of owners do not track their cars, GM made a clever decision to produce the ZR1; unfortunately for them, they priced it a little out of the reach of many. I believe the C-7 Z06 was their compromise, where the stage 1 is more ZR1 like, and the stage 3 is more Z06 like. For those who want a car that will stand up to any exotic on the street, but provides a reasonable ride and a nice interior, a ZR1 'compromise' is the perfect choice. It would not be an issue if the Z06 version was faster on a track, as the stiffer ride, lesser degree of civility and more uncompromising nature day to day would be, for some, too much of a price to pay. I am very happy with my stage 1 (and yes, I have had it on the track). I think of mine as more ZR like than 06 like. Price was/is not the object, as Corvettes are bargains anyway you look at it.
Different strokes for different folks. There is a huge range of what value buyers place on 'bragging rights', regardless of whether they ever come close to actually 'exploring the envelope' they're paying for (a McClaren 650S at the track, just cruising around, comes to mind); then there's the GS?
GM marketing tries to put out a menu that appeals to the mostest. Individual druthers are catered to by the hordes of after-market vendors. I think they're pretty smart.

Easy now Hoss. I owned both of them. Loved the C6Z and loved the C6ZR. I liked the latter better.
That hood window, btw didn't look onto a plastic cover, but rather an aluminum intercooler case, and the interiors were largely the same. I just like the LS9 overall better, although few mills match the glorious sound of the LS7 at song.
At the end of the day, tho, the ZR was the top of the food chain for the C6, and it'll be the top of the food chain for the C7 as well. Doesn't mean the other one is dog food.
Man, what a fragile, sensitive lot this section has become.

This sounds like a repeat of the C6, you start with the ZO6 followed by the ZR1 than in a few years bring out the C8. How much will it cost when the age bracket of buyers now consider the C7 their last blast from the past.

Ahhh....winter boredom....the time of year we think about the things that really don't matter cause we can't afford them anyway...lol
If there is a 2018 it will look the same as it does today, but have those cool auto retracting mirrors the 2016 SHOULD have had.

10 speed automatic might make an appearance.
I do not believe GM will follow the c6 length of production...
The bankruptcy really did have an impact according to bob lutz.
The c7 was supposed to be rear mid engine and an 800 million dollar project....and was turned into a 200 million dollar project as the current c7 after the bankruptcy ...
2020 sounds about right for the mid engine c8 with the 750 hp zR1 as the two or three year swan song farewell as the most powerful front engine production corvette ever...
I'd suggest buying any year c7 z06 with confidence. It's an awesome sport car that performs beyond supercar levels....plus it's easy to keep running for years and years...
I seriously doubt the mid engine c8 will perform much better than the front mid engine corvette..
Maybe an extra tenth or so off the line but track performance ? I'm still not convinced considering how the current c7 z06 does on the track compared to the mclaren 570 or the Ferrari 488....(as an example the car and driver lightning lap)
I think from a looks perspective and from a drivers front sight line and cornering turn in...the mid engine car will be fantastic...

Has GM or others on the US side not learned yet? This model is only on year +2. They need to make something long enough to make it better and. It switch to something new and thus rawt with new problems. Drastic changes too early in the cycle leads to quality and bigger issues... GM please continual improve the product!!
