Default Should I buy basic or Z06?

I am looking to buy a C6 corvette and I have been doing quite a bit of research before buying but I want to reach out to all you experts.

I obviously was leaning towards the Z06 because it has a more power and a more aggressive look, but it is also quite a bit more expensive. Is the extra money worth spending?

Now I was looking at C6 basic and wanted to mod later down the road with a wide body kit and upgrade the engine performance.

Either way I want to modify either car to the wide body kit because I really love the super aggressive look it gives the car.

What are your thoughts? Is the Z06 worth the extra money if I want to upgrade the body anyways. Thanks for all your input.

Upgrading to a GM wide body kit (the only way to go) plus paint, wheels and tires may run 8-10k. Spend the loot now. It will have a better resale value and there's nothing like stock paint

You need to ask yourself if you want a hard top (non-removable) Corvette. This alone made the Z06 unpurchaseable for me. It's purely a personal decision. For me, taking the top off and driving on a beautiful day is the best part of owning a Corvette. I would never be happy with a hard top. But again, it's personal preference.

If you have to ask, you've already made up your mind.

Get a base.

Is the Z06 worth it? Yes.

However, unless you actually race, you're buying a look. Get a Grand Sport.

Z06 supercharged is a waste if you are going to use FI get the GS and supercharge it if youre planning on adding that sort of power. In my opinion, the Z06 is an amazing work of engineering and it should remain a high revving NA to keep the soul of the car alive. Or, get a base and throw on the even wider aftermarket body panels + supercharger.

If you want NA/track monster/possible collectibility, Z06 is the car to get.

Welcome, the Z06 has al of the added features you desire, more performance, wide body, but as mentioned only comes in coupe version. To get a convertible style you then need to consider a 427 convertible, 2013MY only, and even more expensive than either a base or Z06 model.

If it were my money, I would get at least a Grand Sport for the wide body look if you are planning on performance mods. as to add the wide body look to a base will be very expensive and will add nothing to the value if you ever decided to sell.

Your intended use will also dictate the type of car you buy. If you intend to track the car then you either have to install an approved roll bar in a convertible or stick with the coupe. The wide body is the only way to go.

Same here, looked at a couple but I found what I wanted

Don't understand buying a Vette and planning on adding a wide body kit, I would just find a stock wide body and not go through the issue of having to install or pay someone to install

Comparable cars (same year and mileage)
You will spend $15,000 more for the ZO6 than the Coupe. If you can afford this go for the ZO6.
But be carefull about the ZO6 you choose as many are raced and returned to stock to sell.
Also if the head issue has not been addressed thats another $2-3K.
I wanted a removable top and an auto car so I chose a Coupe. I only put the wide booty (rear only) and did all the work myself.
If you choose to go Coupe there are some for sale with the wide body already done, (if your not picky on color and options). Its always less expensive to get one with the work already done.
The Grand Sport usually runs about $8K more than the Coupe, you wont have to supercharge it... bolt ons will take you to 500 HP. Good luck, im sure you will be happy with either Vette.

Go for the ZO6. If you don't you'll always regret it.

If it's the widebody look you want, just buy a Grand Sport. The cost will likely be between the base and Z06, but overall less than doing a body kit, wheels and tires on a base car.

Don't over think your decision and just go get the Z-06.

I agree. I bought the C6Z06 but I kept my C5 vert cause I love to have the top down. If you get the Z, look into getting the heads addressed. I just got new heads done by American Heritage with titanium intake valves, ferrea competition exhaust valves and powder metal valve guides. Kind of a fatal flaw in the C6Z, not that expensive, cheap insurance against replacing a motor. The Z is a beast, you won't regret it. Mine's at the shop now getting modded for autoX this year.

I've wanted a corvette for many, many years, I was researching for sometime, I also wasn't sure if I wanted to spend the extra for the Z06, I also thought about a grand sport but I definitely didn't want a base. I purchased a 2006 Z06 3 weeks ago and so far I love it, If you can afford it, I'd go for it, you don't want to "settle" for something you really didn't want, and to do a body kit on a base seems it'll cost you more and the long run and you won't recoup that on resale as you would if you had bought a Z or grandsport. bottom line don't rush into it, do you research and buy what is going to make you happy.

I think you should get whatever model you want. That said, you didn't really share what you will be doing with the car so it's tough to help you with your decision.

I have a base convertible. I love it for what it is. I drive it to Colorado and cruise through the mountains every year. The rest of the year it sits in my garage save for a few times the weather is nice enough (not too hot or too cold) to drop the top and cruise.

I had a GS prior to this one. I loved that car too but it was a targa top and didn't have that topless feeling I get from the vert. The downside to the widebody is the tires. They are expensive and wear out really fast. The base tires are a little cheaper and there are more options. I know, I know, if I can't afford tires...blah blah. But the car sits a lot and I'll end up replacing the tires before they are threadbare so it's a consideration.

As far as power goes, my 08 base still scares the crap out of me sometimes. I would probably end up down the side of the mountain if I put a supercharger on the car. Maybe start with a base or GS and if you really like it, consider buying a Z in a year or two.

One thing is for sure, you will love whichever Vette you buy.

Good luck and keep us posted!!

Before you go Z06 make sure you know about the head problem. I think I would go for a GS stick.
