Default Insurance...

Hey guys, so this summer I'm looking to get a new or slightly used C7Z and I was getting some insurance quotes and they were crazy. As would be expected because I'm 19 (I'll be 20 in March) lol. So I was just wondering who some of you go through for insurance and what your rates are. Yes, I know it's going to be crazy mainly because of my age, but would like to see whats out there. Thanks guys!

I have USAA insurance on my C6. I checked into the cost of insurance for a Stingray and a Z06. I don't remember the exact numbers, but was surprised to find that the Z06 was about $90 less for a six month policy less than the Stingray for the exact same coverage.

I'm surprised that the Z06 was cheaper. The cheapest quote I've gotten so far was $321 a month, which on top of the payment for the car is doable, but I don't want to be throwing that much money every month for it.

I Pay 700 Per Year On My 2016 Z06. It Was 1500 Per Year On Its Own Policy But When I Added It To My Current Car Policy It Went Down To 700.

Wow. That's literally 3 times less than some of the quotes I got. Geico seems to be the cheapest at $221 a month. I can't remember exactly what he said, but my Grandfather said I could put his name on the title somehow and have it insured with him so that it would be tremendously cheaper. But I will have to speak with him more in depth on that to find out more details.

Be careful going under someones else insurance. If you wreck the car the insurance company can say they aren't paying for the car.. I own a couple car lots and do Rent To Own on vehicles and have seen insurance companies deny claims because people pulled shady ****..

Unfortunately for you, most 19 year olds aren't good drivers, especially when put behind the wheel of a RWD car with a lot of power. I look back at having an S2000 when I was 17 and am glad I learned to drive such a tough car to handle at such a young age, but wonder what I was thinking trying to handle a car that only had 240 HP and RWD. If you've never tracked a car before, I suggest bringing it to a road course once you get it as A) it helps you learn car control in case you need it and B) it helps you respect driving on roads more and gets your "go fast" bug out.

I'm on my parents insurance with my other vehicles (one of which I'll be getting rid of) it just depends on if they want that on their insurance for any reason lol.

Yeah that is the exact problem I don't want. I'm gonna get more quotes and such before any decisions are made for sure!

Yes, I totally agree. Now I don't want to talk myself up or brag or lie about anything, but to be brutally honest, I am a very good driver for my age. Never been in an accident, only have gotten one ticket for Failure to use my turning signal, which I believe was waived or whatever they call it, and I scored a perfect in my drivers ed class that I took when I was 15 (that last part doesn't matter lol). I won't be scared of it, but I will respect the power it has for sure. Hell, my diesel pickup is nothing to play around with. And one of the main keys to the track idea, who wouldn't love driving their car on a race track???

OP you're not going to find affordable insurance on a 650 HP corvette that costs $80k. Insurance is controlled ito a large degree by the state you live in. Where I live you get a pretty good discount af' 25, another at 30, and another if you're 25 or older and married. Discounts also come with bundling a home, auto, and other veclhicles with the same company. Most members probably have other cars they insure as a primary daily drivers and keep the toys as secondary drivers under a mileage limit. These factors keep premiums down. When someone says they pay $700 a year for insurance on a Z06, they probably have a home, other cars, and are older than 25, and take advantage of bundling and age-related discounts.

How in the hell does a 19 year old own a diesel pickup and is now thinking of adding a new or newly new C7Z?

brucethemoose,

I tried to get NCM Insurance on my 67 and they wouldn't insure me because we have a teenage driver in our house.

I also looked into the cost for me to get a ZO6 and I am a life-long USAA member with clean driving record...same punishment for having a teenager on our policy...was way more money than it made sense to pay for insurance...was something like $1800 every 6 months...didn't matter if I said she would drive it or not...

I hope you are able to work it out and get the car...

have you priced having your teenager on a separate policy? Probably cheaper than paying $3600 a year for insurance on a Z06.

You need to check Erie. I have a 17 year old son on my policy and I pay $630 a year for my 2016 Z06. I had Geico but they try to screw me..

We pay $570 a month for '69 Chevy C10, '10 Chevy Silverado, '11 Cadillac SRX, '63 corvette, '79 corvette, '96 corvette, '03 corvette, '15 z06 corvette, and home insurance is included in that as well. In our mid 30's now, but in the late teens and early twenties we definately paid far more for far less coverage, on just one or two vehicles (and no home insurance). Don't get too discouraged, it just takes a few years under your belt and things like insurance rates will improve. FWIW we currently use usaa, they are excellent at everything we've used them for.
