1975 Alternator size problem
The PO replaced the alt. with a Delco 61 amp #1100542. The book calls for a Delco 61 amp #1100544.
My problem is the 542 alt. sets so low that I can't get the belt off without taking the mounting bracket off because it hits the valve cover. Also it sets about 3/16" back too far so the belt rubs the power steering pump.
I can't find a correct number alt. Has anyone else run into this problem or am I missing something?
Thanks, Bob

A picture would help. I don't think the alternator housings varied from 69 - 78 so the mountings would be the same. The early mounting brackets were different then the later C3's. Attach a picture and I will compare it to my 76.

I hadn't thought of that but you may be right. I remember now that years ago I replaced the alternator on an 84 Vette. and had to switch the pulley from the old alt. to the new one.
Do you know size pulley a 1975 takes?
