Default Need to beat locals

Hi, ive been stocking up on parts for my c5 for a while now. Stock I already blow the doors off all of my friends cars when we go race at an abandoned runway. Couple of Hondas, Mustangs, a Lancer, miatas, etc...
These guys have put their cars in the shop and are starting to go to work. At first I wasn't worried, but I heard some are going FI and that the guy with the Lancer is building an EVO 4g63 for it.

I'll be swapping my 3.15 rear to a 3.42, ls6 intake, ported 799's and still debating on what cam and exhaust. Should be making over 400hp.

Two questions, (1) Should I worry or switch my build?
(2) And as for the sleeper approach, what can I do to keep my car sounding stock on the low end so these guys dont see what's coming until its too late without hurting performance too much. Would cut-outs do the job?

Thanks, you guys are always great help.

cut-outs or a TI exhaust will sound and look stock with a small HP improvement.

I would say weight reduction but not a whole lot to rip out of these cars without losing DD status

Lol, I've loved corvettes since I can remember , been a part of the forum way before I owned my c5. I own a metalfab construction company I started in Southern California, Bought the vette to eventually start autocrossing it (and as a write off business expense lol) performance power dollar wise I felt the c5 was the best choice. I race it every now and then given that the car community is pretty big here since smog is only done once in a lifetime in my county (only when you register the car).

What you guys think, I was thinking I could leave the cats, x-pipe, switch to a c5z muffler and put the cutouts after the x-pipe.

Don't know what your budget is, but a supercharger that fits under the stock hood would give you a significant bump in hp. But if you do that, you may want to be sure other components are up to the task.

Thanks, I was also thinking about moving the battery to the rear, im not too big on gutting it since its my DD and I like to take it on long trips. My budget isnt big since im dealing with a guy a couple towns over who I believe may sell me his Chevelle for 3k lol. But im not completely against boosting my car, especially if its cheaper than putting in my current mods.

I would build the car for yourself and not worry about others. There will always be someone faster out there that decided to spend more than you

Things are different in WA. state, too, with countys getting quite a bit of discretion. Where I am there's no "safety" inspection, but on the west side they even have tailpipe sniffer tests.

Yeah, beautiful thing living in Imperial County. With the highest unemployment rate in the country (because of seasonal jobs), also most conservative county in the state. Right in between San Diego and Arizona, and only 20 minutes away from the Mexican border. Its a car guys fantasy, I buy car parts new or from the uncountable number of junkyards there (they'll sell me an lq4 for $900, im looking for a 5.3 with 799 heads, so im probably looking at much less.) , get quality repair work done for much cheaper than doing it myself (A muffler shop will custom build me an x-pipe for 50 bucks installed on my car), and with all the factories down there anything is possible.
Not kidding, last year I was looking for a six speed auto for my Chevelle project from a yard dedicated to transmissions, they didn't even know they existed, I think I can go back and buy it for 4l80e prices.

Funny that a corvette can be considered a sleeper these days? Well if their your friends they will already know if you go and bolt on a supercharger which IMO is the only way you can make a C5 Vette a sleeper, they are pretty quick already. Anything else you do to elevate your car to "sleeper" status people are going to hear a mile away. It's not going to be cheap to make a C5 a sleeper.

I will say some of the drivers of corvettes sort of make them sleepers

I think its more than you want to spend but I have to go with a few others above on the supercharger route. Hard to tell its there until you put your foot in it. Great power and you keep your driveability. You don't need to open up a perfectly good motor. Its basically just a bolt on operation. I had a '93 5 litre LX 5spd with an intercooled procharger. Kept the outside stock looking. Absolutely reliable and maintenance free during my ownership. Great, great fun and a huge surprise to those who didn't know the car. A genuine Q ship ( old street term meaning a deceptively stock looking car that goes like stink, the explanation is for you young folks). Take care!

Thanks, I think im going to go FI. Thats around my overall goal. Would 10psi be safe on a stock ls1 in the long run?
edit: read that wrong lol, Im just not sure how the blower will hold up on the track. Looks like I need to look into it more.

I hope you are drag racing because the Miatas and some other ricers will eat you up for lunch in an autocross

if you make over 100k and can't afford a 15000 dollar car, you must be doing something illegal or you need a financial advisor

That was my first thought, then I remembered, life comes with responsibilities, and Corvette ownership should be fairly low on the priorities. I've never hit 6 figures/yr., at least AFAIK, but the Z was an easy purchase.
