That is the vacuum switch for EFE(heat riser valve). If you are not running EFE it can be removed. If you are running it, the vacuum switch is designed to keep the flapper valve open once the engine has warmed up.

As a side note, I can't remember off the top of my head if the actuator is open without vacuum or closed without vacuum. I know the ones in the air cleaner snorkels are open without vacuum.

Thanks for that. I think I will try to remove all that.
I am running the stock air cleaner for now, but am installing headers.
I thought I would just leave the door open on the air cleaner and not use the heat riser from exhaust.

Thanks,

Steve

I trashed all that crap when I installed hookers on my old 78 l/82/4SPD. EGR block off plate etc. Threw on a Holly Q jet replacement for non/EGR 350/elec choke
the snorkel vacume lines arent hooked up/the plates are open.

The hookers are a direct fit,the dr side will drop right down from the top, pass side will have to up from under, the colector wont clear the HAVAC box. I tool out the ac also. Pair of inline heater core shut off valves, I did drive the car in the winter so I would just open em up.

forgot, stay "under" with the spark plug wires, see pic.up graded to a accell dizzy also, great ride for just ***** & giggles ! No Corvette/car/truck Remains Stock in my book.

Thanks for all of that! I am looking for cheap HP this is a cheap- cheap project ( paid 2500 will probably spend 5000 more total) I am thinking dual exhaust with short headers is the least expensive power boost, plus re curving dist. and set up the original Quadrajet. I just built a plate for the EGR.
Thanks for the help,
P.S. With you on the nothing stays stock comment -It never is if you want to improve it-
Take that from an old Harley Guy.
