Default How to replace outside mirror bracket on a 63, pic

I want to remove mounting mirror bracket and install a new one. Question is, can the two screws that hold the bracket to door be removed and the inner nuts or nut plate stay in place, or will they fall inside the door. I'm missing some pages from the assembly manual and do not have those details.

It will fall down in the door, unless someone epoxyed it to the fiberglass. Dennis

No, it will not. Unless the original nut plate has come loose, or been removed by someone in the past, it should be riveted in place.

All 63-67 Corvettes came with a nut plate riveted into the underside of the driver's side door skin. The bracket in the OP's picture is of the the bracket used for the 1st design 63 long base mirror, but both the 63 long base and the 63-67 short base mirrors, attached to a nut plate in the door.

The image below was stolen from Corvette Central's website, and shows the nut plate used with the 63 long base mirror.

Got the mirror put on. It does have a nut plate attached to inner door.
