Just saw a 2004 Z06 sell for $67k at the auction. They said it was the last C5 Z06 ever made. That's a ton of money.

I also saw that, looked to be in great shape. They are spending some $$$$ out there on all vehicles.....
Tuesday night a beautiful 58 Vette went for $101,000 It may still be the highest number so far. Not sure though, as I am not keeping tract of all sales!!!

YES! The last production c5 z06 z16 went over the block for $67,000.00!!!
That is totally amazing for an original, perfect z16 z06, regardless of what the sequence of production low mileage, and perfect condition.
ANYONE that owns the same car just got a bump in their car's value, as this somewhat sets a new standard for what these fine cars can sell for.
I don't want to get into an argument with the mod car guys ...
but lot's of people looking to spend the big bucks want original, unabused
relatively low mileage examples.
BTW... $67,000 plus 10% auction buyers fee = $73,700...
now ship it home and you have a $75,000 2004 z06 z16!!

The seller pays an auction fee AND the buyer pays an auction fee. The total fees are around 18% depending on who you are.

But that's my view, and I completely respect owners that feel otherwise.

WTF?? Even if this car had 2 miles on it that price is insane. I've heard of plenty of c5z's with under 1k on them. BJ shoppers are a whole other class of buyers though, get two rich guys with more money than they know what to do with that both want the same car and this is what happens. It's not the normal buyer/seller market.

There is no good reason to call these folks names simply because they spent money that you don't understand. They are enthusiasts just like you and me. More importantly they are the folks who are setting the future market of the cars we own. If a market exists, people will find the cars to sell into that market and it will become the true value. We have all read the articles about the C5 future value and many here laugh and say it can't happen. It appears some may want to re-think that position.

The September 2016 edition of Corvette Magazine - Buyer's Guide stated the C5 market is "Heating Up". It indicated the approximate base values of a show-ready 2004 Z06 CE is $42,000. Sure is nice knowing they're holding value.

Wow, that's awesome. Believe me I have no problem with someone paying $60k+ for one, it only helps the values of all c5z's. Just couldn't believe someone actually paid that kind of $.

That was Mike Yeager's car (MAM). I've seen that car out there on display. Very nice car. He also has-had? don't know if it's still there, but the last C4. That one Mike went down the line with and had everyone on the line sign the car as they were assembling it. There are a ton of signatures on it.

That was said mostly in jest, but let's expand on that thought. The BJ auction attracts high rollers, very wealthy people. Many times they buy something because they happen to like it. If someone else in the room also likes it, they will over pay to get it. Not really indicative to the market at that point. Just because 2 guys with drinks in their hands, laughing and having a good time, and enjoying their moment on the tv cameras showing the world they are buying that car doesn't mean that there is a new value set. Therefore, my comment becomes relevant. And what makes you think I don't understand that amount of money?
Neither of us can understand the money others spend and what it means to them. I have been to those sales and watched the people who buy there. Some of them are incredibly wealthy individuals and the money at that level may well mean nothing. The majority are buying a single car that represents a life long dream and represents a good portion of their net worth. The reality of people bidding to show off for the camera is rare. Most of the participants know exactly what they are doing and have done their homework. Generally they didn't get that money by being foolish.
If one spends the time to look at the major auction results over the last year, you can clearly see the trend of what is happening to the C5 value. Thus the articles written and the prognostications by those who are in the field for a living. I simply don't understand why people would not see the correlation between the auction market and the street value. As the old saying goes "A rising sea lifts all boats". There are a large number of dealers who when they see the values being reflected on the auction block are going to start buying the vehicles off the street as long as the spread is there.
