C2 of the Year Finalist - Modified 2020
Yes! I have had Marchal low beams since the '70's. All the details of additional mods have been well covered here. Consider doing a search. Dennis

I think 55/60w is pushing the limit for existing wiring. Anything more and you do need to put in a heavier wiring as well as a larger alternator. And I would not recommend running 90/100w thru your switch & dimmer as per factory wiring ... put some relays up front near the horn relay to power your high current 90/100w bulbs thru heavy wire directly, and use existing factory wiring back to the switches as the low current signal wires.
If you need more info on doing this, PM me. Bill

Do 35W HID ballasts and bulbs in H4 housings need the relays?
I swapped HID bi-zenon kits into my motorcycle H4 housings and it made a world of difference (and a DRZ is not known to have a robust stator, so the 35W draw helps). The price of HID kits are now down to under $10 for two H4 bulb replacements.

Thank you.

Nonetheless, I would suggest using relays anyway for lights, and any other large current draw. Why? The reason is not everyone has changed out their 50-60 year old wiring. It is old, corroded and the circuits for many things run the full current draw up through the firewall into the dash and back through these old wires, connections and switches. New wiring harnesses help, because they eliminate the corrosion aspect, but they are the same size wires as they used back then when current draw on lights and things were less than some of the stuff we use today 50-60 years later. So for the larger current draws, why not add in some relays to take most of the load off our old wiring harnesses? It just makes sense to me. Especially when we want to update/add modern technology in terms of lights, alarm systems, sound, A/C in non-A/C cars, etc, etc. Bill

This is a simple plug and play situation. Swing by your local auto parts house and pick up two 5006 Halogen low beams and two 5001 Halogen high beams. Plug them in and you're ready to go. I have done this for 20 years...zero issues

Use to run 100W Aircraft landing lights as my high beams "back in the day" on both my 66 and 70 Vettes, for use only in the boonies (great for avoiding deer).
Relay are required...should of been that way from the General!
Even on stock headlights, you will be surprised at how much brighter they are with the relays supplying full voltage to the lights.
