Was my Z06 a special marketing build?
I posted this info in the VIN registry section, but 743 posts deep doesn't get a lot of traction...reposting here to try and get some feedback
When I purchased my '17 Z06, the dealership told me that the vehicle was a special promotional build by GM, brought to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for a photo shoot, and therefore carried a special VIN. After the shoot was over, the GM folks asked the dealership owner if he would like to sell the vehicle and it would not count against his allotment. I know the dealership owner fairly well (traded my '70 454 convertible to him for my '14 Z51) BUT I always thought that the story was a stretch, and maybe just a sales trick to generate extra interest. Now I'm not so sure. I see that all of the listed VIN's for 2017 in the registry have a last 6 digits that start with 60.... and mine starts with 50... Anyone know why this might be?
It's an arctic white (w/ body color vents) with blue top/interior, 3LZ Z07, M7, visible carbon aero kit, comp seats, and interior carbon fiber pkg
Thanks to the dealership owner, I was able to do a parade lap on the track before the 100th running of the Indy 500 last year, as well as a parade lap before the Indianapolis Grad Prix. Maybe the story is legit? Does it add any value to the vehicle if so? I'm definitely happy with the cool factor, if not. IF it is true, any idea on how to obtain those promotional pics? I've tried searching the web.
Thanks

If you really want to know if this is true you should enlist the support of your dealer. He has access to information and people that could prove this out very easily.

Your dealer knows the truth about it. As said above, ask to have it proved to you, not that you don't trust his word but because someday you may want to sell it and this would be of benefit to you.

And, would add you should contact the National Corvette Museum - call and talk with Betty Hardison (270-467-8841) or Sharon Kinser (270-467-8807). Send a PM to Tadge, perhaps he has an idea.

^^^^ The car was sold new and had about 35 miles on it at the time of purchase.

Dealer probably had a whole bunch of extra money on it if the factory used it, hope you got an incredible deal. ;-)
